It has a total area of , of which is land and 0.4% is water. As of the census of 2000, there were 2,521 people, 877 households, and 617 families residing in the town.[2] The population density was 574.0 people per square mile (233.8/km²). Shively is a town in Marshall County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,671 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Louisville metropolitan area. The town was named after Samuel Shively, a lawyer and politician who served as recorder of deeds in Marshall County from 1827 to 1836. A post office called Shively was established in 1829, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. Shively became a borough in 1959, and has since been an unincorporated community within the town limits. The community has a library and several businesses including one that sells produce from local gardens grown on public land adjacent to the borough.
