From the 1930s until the 1990s, Crowley AFB was home to the United States Air Force's (USAF) Ninth Air Force. The 9 AF was a bomber and fighter wing that flew Lockheed P-38 Lightning aircraft. In 1943, Ninth Air Force's first jet squadron, the 510th Bomb Wing, was activated at Crowley AFB. With the Cold War coming to a close, Tenth Air Force was activated at Crowley in1991 and it served as an air defense command in Louisiana until disbanding in 2002. Crowley AFB is still home to many USAF units today including: 1st Fighter Wing; 511th Bomber Squadron; 627th Airlift Wing; 813th Intelligence Squadron; 909th Special Operations Squadron; and 1028th Security Forces Squadron. It has also been used as a training ground for various special forces groups such as Delta Team and Green Berets. The 9 AF has also been used for artillery fire support missions both during World War II and Operation Iraqi Freedom!

The Falcons play their home games at Crowley-Reeves Stadium and have been in existence since 1951. In 1955, the USAF activated its present flying unit, tactical air forces (TAAF), at Crowley-Reeves Stadium with Boeing 727s from Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio. TAAF was redesignated as fighter/bomber wings (F/B) on 1 October 1958 and as an air base wing (ABW) on 15 December 1963. The 4th AF also operates two other military installations: Algiers AFB in Louisiana City and Joint Base McGuire–Dix–Havre, both located in New Jersey.

In 1911, he became one of three incorporators and first president of Crowley College (now known as New Orleans University).

One reason being that there was no global network of support like there had been during World Wars I and II; moreover, aviation wasn't yet widely understood outside of combat units or elite circles within society as it is today . Additionally, many USAF commanders believed that bombing campaigns would ultimately achieve results whereas ground forces could hold off enemy advances indefinitely . Crowley was a small town in Louisiana, United States. It is located on the banks of the Red River, about 25 miles west of Baton Rouge. The population was 1,609 at the 2010 census. Crowley's ZIP code is 77813. The community began as a hamlet on the banks of the Red River in 1868, when John Crowley founded Crowley Landing on what is now known as Arkansas Road. The post office was established in 1869 and named for John Crowley and his son-in-law Sam Adams. By 1880, Crowley had become a small cotton plantation with over 100 acres (41 hectares). In 1886, John Fenton purchased land east of town from Samuel Lilly for $5 per acre (0.27 per kilometer²). In 1898, Jno Hickey bought 3/4 mile (1 km) north of town from George Murdoch for $2 per acre (0.10 per kilometer²). In 1906, Adolphus Busby donated land to build Stroud Field Aerodrome near present-day Crowley; it became operational that year and remained active until 1957. The field served as an important airfield during World War II and also hosted Ulysses S Grant's funeral service in 1911. After World War II, Crowley declined to become an "independent" municipality; it instead became part of Baton Rouge metropolitan area under statehood in 1964. Today, much of what once belonged to Crowley has been torn down or converted into housing developments; however some original structures remain including the old Methodist church which stands today adjacent to Baptist Church Lake Drive off US Highway 90 Business south of town..
