The Denham Springs, Louisiana Coast Guard Station was established in 1922. The station is one of the first and most recent coast guard stations in the area. It has been a part of the United States Coast Guard since 1915. The Denham Springs station was originally known as the Fort Polk Marine Barracks. It was renamed for Commodore John W. Denham, who served as Commandant of the Coast Guard from 1920 to 1923. Commodore Denham also helped set up the present day Coast Guard Station at Denham Springs in 1922. The original building on this site was built in 1905 by local citizens and soldiers from Spanish America under General Antonio López de Santa Anna during World War I while they were fighting against Germany and Austria-Hungary. The building still stands today, serving as a museum which tells the story of this period in history. Today, Commodore John W. Denham’s monument remains at the side of Highway 9 near where he once lived and worked; it is now called “Denham Springs Monument” and overlooks Interstate 10 south of town.. The plaque reads: “John W. Denham – Commodore John Wrenshall (1920-23) – Founder & Commander, Coastal Security Fleet 1924-1925”

Denham Springs, Louisiana is a small town in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. The population was 3,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was named for General John Denham, who helped to create the parish in 1814. The first post office opened in 1824. A sawmill and gristmill were built in 1827; they were destroyed by a fire in 1830. A school was established in 1829; it closed in 1928. A Baptist church opened in 1830; it burned down in 1902. The community became an agricultural center after the arrival of tractors and other machines during the late 1800s. After World War I, Denham Springs grew as a result of military housing developments that began to be constructed near the town limits. In 1929, Denham Springs had 1 grocery store and 10 small businesses; by 2009, it had 5 grocery stores and 100 small businesses.

Denham Springs, Louisiana was founded in 1819 by General John Denham and his family. The community is located in the parish of Orleans and has a population of over 4,000 people. Denham Springs is known for its wine production and for its historical significance as the first town in Louisiana to be chartered. The Denham Springs community was named after General John Denham, who donated land to the town in 1819. The original settlers were farmers who operated a sawmill and millinery business. In 1823, the first school was established in Denham Springs. By 1830, there were seven businesses open in the town. In 1836, Denham Springs became an official town within Orleans Parish. That year, it also received a courthouse and jail facilities. In 1840, the first store was built on Main Street in the town. In 1840-41, a cotton gin was constructed near Main Street. In 1847-48,denHAM SPRINGS FESTIVAL took place at DENHAM SPRINGS HALL which featured performances by local bandshells as well as food stalls from all around New Orleans including JF's restaurant which had their very own private balcony! This event also included races among various categories of carts/ cars etc., pony shows (for young children), livestock show with demonstrations of milking equipment etc.. Unfortunately due to WWI many things went wrong & only about 60%of what happened at this years festival remains today
In 1853, Denham Springs was founded as a small community in the parish of Livingston. It grew quickly, and by 1871 it had a population of over 500 people. By 1920, the town had grown to over 2,000 people. In 1925, Denham Springs was incorporated as a city. The city prospered for many years, but in the late 1960s and early 1970s its economy declined due to changes in the world economy. Demands for housing and services led to decline in business activity and population growth. As of 2010, Denham Springs is an estimated ghost town with only a few remaining residents.
