The first coffeehouse in Denham Springs was established in 1824 by John A. Roebuck and his wife Anna. It was located on Second Street between White and Black Streets. In 1829, James Henson opened a second coffeehouse on Green Street near the current site of Main Library. In 1846, George Waring opened another coffeehouse on State Street just south of downtown Denham Springs. By 1850, there were five coffeehouses in town and more than 100 residents working at them. The first espresso machine was installed at the Denham Springs Coffee House in 1912 by Luigi Ferraris, who also started the first Italian restaurant in Denham Springs. The café continued to serve espresso until it closed its doors in 1951 due to economic reasons. 4 years later, Angelo's Coffee Shop reopened and served delicious cups of java all day long! They continue to serve up their amazing java every day today!

Denham Springs is located in Jefferson County, Louisiana, about 25 miles east of New Orleans. The population was 9,819 at the 2010 census. Denham Springs is a town and CDP with a total area of 7.1 square miles (18 km²). The community is named after General James Denham who served as an American general during the Mexican-American War and as military governor of Louisiana in 1847-48. The first Europeans to visit Denham Springs were Frenchmen under Commandant Jacques Marquette on July 14, 1763. They explored the area around present day Denham Springs and noted its strategic position for trading with Native Americans and Spanish traders. In 1814, General Andrew Jackson invaded Mexico and captured Veracruz while marching through Texas. On November 5th he reached Tamaulipas where he met Governor Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna who surrendered to him without battle or fought against him. Santa Anna then journeyed to Nuevo Laredo where he met with Ulysses S Grant who told him that President Polk had sent him word to surrender Texas if he could cross over the Rio Grande into Mexico proper without fighting Mexican forces which would enable him to take back Texas for the United States! Santa Anna agreed but changed his mind when he learned that Grant intended only to march on Monterrey instead! A prelude to the Mexican-American War had begun! On February 20th, 1846, General Sam Houston surrendered at San Jacinto Ranch near Comanche Wells in present day Austin, Texas after a three days siege by 1,500 Texan cavalry and 3 detachments from Ulysses S Grant’s army plus 2 cannon batteries from Fort Bend County artillery under Lieutenant Colonel Don Carlos Buesa. At this point hostilities between America and Mexico ended as both sides agreed to cede all their territory west of the Rio Grande including modern day TX (including present day LA), NM (present day NM), OK (presentday OK), AZ (presentday AZ) AND TXAnchego Province which included most of what are now Amarillo TX & Odessa TX today! This event marked one of history’s largest defeats for America at war; it has been said that “the last great American victory in Mexico” although it may have been less costly overall due to American losses suffered at Bexar Heights & Monterrey
