Gourmet Coffee History in Gretna, Louisiana When it comes to coffee, there is no place like Gretna. This town located in the French Quarter of New Orleans had a long and rich coffee history that has been passed down through families for generations. The first espresso machine was built in 1885 by Antonio Fagioli, who also founded the Italian restaurant La Scala. The first café in Gretna opened its doors on Broome Street in 1913. By 1928, Café du Midi had become one of the most popular cafés in New Orleans with its innovative drip coffee service. One of the most famous cafes in Gretna was The French Press Coffee House which served up delicious french press coffee from 1909-1968. The building still stands today and can be found on Royal Street near Third Avenue. During their time at this location, The French Press Coffee House became known for their creative approach to espresso drinks such as tiramisu and chocolates. Café L’Atelier de la Côte d'Or was also located in Gretna during the 1930s and 1940s – serving up delicious cappuccinos, lattes and ventres de brasse ( brebis assaisonnées ). Today this cafe remains a favorite spot for locals and tourists alike to enjoy a cup of Joe while taking advantage of their extensive menu options. Gretna, Louisiana is a small town located in Rapides Parish, Louisiana. The population was 3,824 at the 2000 census. The community is named for General Andrew Jackson who fought in the Battle of New Orleans and was later elected President of the United States. Gretna is located on the banks of the Vermilion River and has a wide variety of businesses including restaurants, gasoline stations, convenience stores, and an L&L Bank. The main shopping district in Gretna is known as "The Landing" which includes several large department stores such as Sears and JCPenney. There are also several smaller retailers scattered throughout the community.

There are also Robusta and Colombian blends, but they all have their own unique flavors and textures. The first coffee was grown in Ethiopia in about 1250 BC. The first crop was a type of wild sunflower called Helianthus annuus. However, this particular bean didn’t take very well to being roasted so it wasn’t popular until 4th century AD when Arabs started roasting it themselves. From then on, different regions started growing different types of coffee. Indonesia began roasting its own beans in the 16th century AD and by the 18th century, Java had started doing the same too. Africa began roasting its own beans around 1800 BC and by 1000 BC, Sumatra had started doing the same as well. By 3000 BC, Arabia was starting to roast its own beans too! By 4000 BC, all of these regions were smoking their own beans! The variety that we know today as espresso came about with Italian Roasters in 1598 when Angelo di Basile decided to start selling his roasted coffee from his penthouse apartment in Rome City. Giovanni Antonio Bonacorsi followed him up two years later and then Nino Ravelli did it again in 1600 AD! All of these guys pioneered what we now know as espresso brewing – making sure that each cup has a strong flavor profile and a smooth texture!

The first coffee was ground from beans roasted by the monks in 1295. Coffee beans were traded between different parts of the world before becoming available to purchase as commodity goods. The first true coffeehouses opened in the late 17th century and began serving coffee to a wider audience. The Dutch started importing coffee from Africa in 1652 and soon became the leading roaster of coffee worldwide. In 1815, French traders discovered Java's rich source of tropical spices and began trading with Indonesia for this valuable crop. Coffee production peaked around 1830 and declined during World War II because of CO2 pollution picked up by airplanes travelling over plantations

Gretna is a small town in Rapides Parish, Louisiana, United States. It was founded in 1812 and named for General James K. Polk. The population was 5,024 as of the 2010 census. The first settler in Gretna was Baptist minister John Lynch. He and his family moved to the area in 1827 from Baton Rouge. In 1829, he built the first log cabin on what is now Second Street. In 1830, he married local woman Amanda Gaston and they had six children before she died in 1856. Lynch continued to farm until his death in 1881 at the age of 80 years old. His wife's death made him one of the last farmers to die west of Orleans Parish (then part of New Orleans). After her death, he bequeathed property valued at $1 million to various charities including two schools that still operate today: La Salle University and St Joseph's College-Louisiana City (now UL Lafayette). In 1840, Confederate general Pemberton ordered Captain David Dixon to move an encampment of Confederate soldiers from Jackson Parish into Rapides Parish for protection against possible attacks by Union forces under General Ulysses S. Grant; Dixon complied but later deserted them with all their goods on December 12th when he learned that Grant had crossed over the Iberian Peninsula unprovoked into Spanish Louisiana without being asked by Napoleon III! Dixon has been honored as a hero by many townsfolk throughout his long life including street names like "Dixon Avenue" and a park located near his original home which honors him still today: Dixon Park/David Dixon Elementary School

Gretna was founded by French colonists in 1763 as a small trading post on the banks of the Mississippi River. The town grew rapidly and within a few years had become an important center of trade and culture in the region. By 1800, Gretna had become one of the largest cotton plantations in Louisiana. In 1811, Gretna was hit hard by Hurricane Andrew, which left much damage and destroyed many buildings. The town did not recover until after General James K. Polk moved his army to the area in 1869 to help rebuild things. Gretna continued to be an important community throughout its history, becoming known for its rich colonial architecture, its strong local economy, and its close relationship with nearby New Orleans.
