Tactical coffee was first popularized in the Gretna, Louisiana area in the early 1900s. It was an attempt to combine the benefits of Bothan and K-Cup coffee with a more modern brewing method. The first commercial production of tactical coffee took place in 1912 at a small plantation known as White Sands Coffee. The company was started by John Witherspoon and his brother-in-law, Elijah Craig. They were looking for a new way to produce fresh coffee that would be pleasing to customers. At first, they used a French press, but soon realized that this approach did not work well because of the high pressure required to make good cup of coffee. In 1913, they developed a process called "automatic printing." This method involved using two cups of water and one shot of espresso powder to create two cups of coffee. The resulting product had better flavor and was less bitter than traditional French presses. This new process allowed them to produce large quantities of quality coffee at a lower cost than traditional roasters. In 1918, Harold McGee founded Peak Coffee Corporation in response to demand for their unique beans from military personnel stationed throughout Southeast Asia. McGee began producing tactical caffeine through his Peak Coffee Company subsidiary, Specialty Coffee Corporation (SCC). SCC produced beans under contract with some of the world's top militaries including the United States Marines, Army Air Forces and Royal Thai Navy Armed Forces. In 1945, McGee merged Peak Coffee Corporation with Whitewater Brewing Company which became America's third largest brewer after Sam Adams Brewery and Coors Brewing Company

Gretna, Louisiana is a small town located in Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana. The population was 10,594 at the 2000 census. It is the seat of Gretna Township. The name "Gretna" comes from a French name meaning "place of Victory." In 1814, General Andrew Jackson's army occupied the town during their march on Baton Rouge and destroyed much of it in the process. The reconstructed courthouse still stands in Gretna today. The town was founded by French colonists in 1797 and most likely named after one of their leaders, Jean-Baptiste de Grétigny. By 1800, the village had grown to around 100 people and was known as "the most beautiful place on earth." However, by 1814 when General Jackson occupied the area during his march through Baton Rouge, much of Gretna had been destroyed including its churches and homes. reconstruction began immediately with help from British forces under Admiral Owen Powell who donated land for the project. In 1821, local resident Isaac Hawkins achieved national fame when he won a gold medal at the Paris Olympics while running as an amateur swimmer. Two years later Hawkins moved to America and established himself in New Orleans where he became an entrepreneur involved in real estate development and banking interests; he also served as mayor from 1836 to 1840. In 1850 Hawkins sold his interest in New Orleans' famed sugar refinery to sugar Baron Pierre L’Enfant for $1 million which made him one of America's wealthiest men ever - making him one of only two American businessmen (along with Cornelius Vanderbilt) to achieve such distinction before 1830s American capitalism emerged fully formed). In 1861 Gretna voted 2-to-1 against secession from France because they felt it would be bad for business reasons although this did not stop many inhabitants from supporting Confederate causes throughout the war period regardless of whether or not they lived within Confederate territory At times parish officials were forced into pro-Union decisions due to financial constraints; however once money ran out these officials typically sided with Jefferson Davis over Lincoln because they saw support for Davis among white Arkansans (although some black citizens also supported Davis). Gretna is a small town in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,644 at the 2000 census. Gretna is located on the Mississippi River adjacent to New Iberia and Baton Rouge. The first permanent settler in Gretna was Baptist preacher John Cline who arrived in 1815 from Tennessee. He founded the Claiborne County Baptist Church which still meets today in the town square. In 1824, Andrew Jackson married Eleanor Donelson here and this event became known as "the marriage of Gretna." The couple had one daughter before Mrs. Jackson died in 1829 after giving birth to another daughter named Harriet Tubman whom she brought to America with her father during his Underground Railroad raid into freedom for slaves. Harriet eventually became an abolitionist leader herself.
