In 1916, The Coffee House was sold to Burt Beauman who changed its name to The Bean Shop. At The Bean Shop, customers could purchase ground coffee or pods for their machines. From 1966 until 1984, The Bean Shop was owned by Mrs. Jeanne Browning who made her home on the second floor of the store. Mrs. Browning played an important role in developing the business into what it is today; she was responsible for marketing and selling beans alongside her husband John Browning who operated the store front desk. Jennings is located on I-10 just south of Baton Rouge and east of Shreveport. The area that now makes up Jennings was first settled by Germans in 1802 as part of a plan called "Natchez Purchase". Jennings, Louisiana is a small town located in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. The population was 2,521 at the 2010 census. Jennings was founded in 1836 by Andrew Jennings and his family. The original settlers were farmers and cattle ranchers. Jennings became a town after it was annexed by Jefferson Parish in 1896. In 1912, Jennings renamed itself for James Fenton Jennings, the then-Governor of Louisiana. The first settler in Jennings was Andrew Jennings who came to the area from Kentucky in 1836. He built a cabin on what is now known as Old Highway 508 near present day Hammondsport Road. A few years later he erected a log cabin on what is now US 90/I-10 about six miles east of today's Jennings. By 1840, Andrew and his wife had four children: Jennie (born 1837), John (born 1840), Mandy (born 1843) and Andrew Jr., or Andy (born March 25th, 1846). All but Jennie married within the next five years; Jennie married John Trueblood around 1850 while still living at her parents' cabin on Old Highway 508 near present day Hammondsport Road. AfterAndrew's death in 1851, Jennie took over running their farm which she continued to do until her death in 1862 when she turned eighteen years old and joined her mother at the Cabin on Old Highway 508 where they continue to live until 1865 when they moved to what is now known as Ladd's Ford northeast of modern day Hammondsport Road where they raised two daughters with Drudy Ann Trueblood before dying there alsoometime during that year according to some sources circa 1870 Dakota County history book
