When French traders arrived in North America, they were among the first to trade in coffee beans. In 1693, Pierre-Jacques Conte organized a group of Frenchmen to transport cargo across the Atlantic Ocean for wine and other goods. While on their way to Quebec City, Canada, they stopped at the port of Kenner on Louisiana's Gulf Coast. There they traded rice and sugar for coffeebeans which they would later sell back home

The Kenner coffee district, located in the parish of St. Bernard on the city's north side, dates back to at least 1847. The first roasters in this area were Gourdon and Beaulieu Coffee Co., which opened a store on the corner of Jefferson and Elm Streets. In 1853, a new coffee house was built at 9th and Magazine Streets by J.P. Beaulieu and his partners, including his brother-in-law John Bourgeois (of the Bourgeois Brewery). By 1865, J.P.'s son John P. Beaulieu had joined his father in business; they continued to operate the store until it was taken over by their younger brother Josephine (Josie) Beaulieu in 1916. In 1925, Harry & Sons Coffee Roasters opened an establishment at 10th Street and Magazine Avenue within sight of Gourdon Coffee Company; it remained open until 1928 when Harry moved away from Kenner and became associated with Selma & shorthand fame Lamar Hunt Sr.. In 1948, Frenchmen Coffee Roasters began operations near Center Street & Magazine Avenue; it closed in 1951 after only six months due to high costs related to importation of beans from Brazil. Harry's successor as owner of Frenchmen Coffee Roasters was Lamar Hunt Jr.'s older brother Archibald AuchinleckHunt (1909-1984), who ran the business for fifteen years before selling it to Alfredo Parigi (1924-2003) in 1975; Parigi operated it as an Italian restaurant until its closure in 1992). In 1984, Bob Cavanaugh bought Frenchmen from Archibald AuchinleckHunt and reopened it as Bob's Café du Lac adjacent to L'Auberge de Paris on North Rampart Street - one of Louisiana's earliest cafes/restaurants/. Kenner, Louisiana is a town located in Rapides Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in Kenner were the Caddo Indians who arrived around 1685. A post office was established in 1848, and by 1860, Kenner had 6 residents. In 1865, the U.S. Post Office moved from its original location on the banks of the Mississippi River to what is now downtown Kenner after a fire destroyed part of their building in Baton Rouge. By 1870, there were 12 citizens living in Kenner and it had a school and an Episcopal church. In 1874, two brothers named Charles Ewing built a cotton gin on land they purchased from John Pemberton for $2 per acre (about $). They became known as "The Ewings". In 1886 they sold their gin to David Bogue for $10 per acre (about $). Bogue developed it into what is now downtown Kenner with his mill and house still standing today on Elm Street near Wilkinson Avenue. The townspeople donated all their land north of Elm Street to be used for public square development which includes current day Market Square Park and nearby businesses such as JB's Pizza & Pasta and Centene Corporation Headquarters before being annexed by New Orleans in 1896 when that city was created from several smaller townships within Rapides Parish including Kenner Township

Kenner is a small town in Livingston Parish, Louisiana. The population was 9,867 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Livingston Parish and home to Livingston High School. The community was first settled by Acadians in 1796. The town was named after an early French settler, Jacques Kenner. The area now known as Kenner was originally part of the larger parish of Iberia which included present-day Baton Rouge and parts of central Louisiana. When Iberia split into two parishes in 1795, the land for Kenner fell within the new Iberia Parish. In 1824, a post office called "Kenner" was established here, but it no longer exists; it has been replaced by nearby Metairie. Dustin Whitehead founded Livingston Navigation Company in 2006 and manufactures boat anchors and other navigation products from his shop on Main Street in Kenner. The company grew out of an idea to create a business that would support local fishermen and help them sell their catches directly to consumers across the Mississippi River. Whitehead's father had also started a fishing company in nearby Biloxi years earlier and he knew how important it was for fishermen to have access to good market prices for their product so he decided to start his own business instead of waiting for higher prices from processors or wholesalers overseas.
