Kenner was part of Jefferson Parish until1879, when it became Orleans Parish. In 1892, the first post office in the parish was established in Kenner. In 1907, the parish seat was moved from Kenner to New Orleans. The last gun store closed in 1960 and all remaining firearms were sold off or melted down. The first handgun manufactured in Kenner was a Colt revolver made by George Tilton and delivered to Fenton Jarrell on November 11th, 1907. This is one of only four handguns ever produced inKenner-the other three being shotguns (1911 Winchester Model 94), rifles (1912 Remington 870) and pistols (1913 Browning Hi-Power). Kenner, Louisiana is located in the state of Louisiana. The population was 2,711 as of the 2010 census. The city is named after Admiral John B. Kenner who served as Commandant of the Marine Corps during World War I. He later became a United States Senator from Louisiana and helped to create the protected area known as New Orleans Park. The area that now makes up Kenner was first settled by Native Americans in the 17th century. Captain Pierre L’Ouverture, a French officer and explorer, set out from New Orleans in 1718 on an expedition to explore new land north of Mobile Bay. He discovered what would become Kenner when he landed there on November 12, 1718. At first, L’Ouverture named this new settlement Saint-Jean de la Rivière (John's River). However, because it was near Mobile Bay and there were already several settlements in this area by this name (including one at nearby Alexandria), L’Ouverture changed the name to Kenner on December 4, 1719. In 1814, General Andrew Jackson led an army through eastern Louisiana and into Alabama during his Invasion of America campaign for control of Mexico's southwestern border. On September 14th he reached Baton Rouge where he met with Governor Claiborne Pell who reported that American forces had destroyed all but two small posts east of Baton Rouge; one at Châteauguayon and one at Tillery Flatts near what is now Lafayette Parish. Colonel Thomas Jourdan decided to march against Jackson before he could arrive in force and skirmish with him near Grosse Pointe du Lac on October 8th; however, when Jourdan arrived too late to prevent any battle or significant damage being done to American forces by General Stono (who had earlier fought against Jackson) he abandoned his attempt to dislodge General Jackson from northern Mississippi Territory which lay between Yazoo Pass (now part of Tennessee) and Lake Pontchartrain giving us our current designation as "Louisiana" back then - we were just east of Monroe Parish! Notwithstanding Jourdan's efforts some casualties were inflicted upon both sides prior to their retreat across Pontchartrain which left numerous troops dead or captured including Major James Kenedy who surrendered his fortifications at Opelousas on October 15th after hours long siege without loss! For these actions Lieutenant Colonel Francis Marion took command over Kenedy's garrison only for him also surrendering a few days later when Marion learned about Dunbar's movements! A series Of bloody engagements followed between American & French forces until February 9th when General Stono withdrew his army nearing Mobile Bay; thus ending what has come be called "The Great Indian War"!! In total more than 505 Canadians lost their lives including almost 400 soldiers under Brigadier General Edward Cornwallis while 3 thousand British Soldiers died either killed or taken prisoner during this conflict including Generals Wolfe Tone(British), Burgoyne(Canadian) & Forbes(American). Today much remains unchanged since those old times such as Painesville Plantation which still stands today vacant although once used for cotton farming produce grapeseed oilseed production currently underway !!! With its rich history dating back centuries come many unique attractions like: The Museum of Art featuring artwork collected by Admiral John B Kenner himself along with artifacts related thereto such as frontier rifles & cannons dating back over 100 years plus items from The Arkwright Company produced here virtually unchanged since 1847 plus items from Planter families dating back even further including tools used daily in agriculture such as hoes & sickles made here beginning around 1700s

The city of Kenner was founded by Maurice L. Kenner in 1881. The city's first building, the Masonic Temple, was built in 1892. The city grew rapidly during the 1920s and 1930s due to its location on the Mississippi River and its access to heavy industry and transportation. In the 1940s, following World War II, Kenner became a center for African American culture and education. During the 1960s and 1970s,Kenner experienced growth as a result of its status as a working-class city with a large black population. In the late 1990s, following Hurricane Katrina, Kenner suffered significant damage and loss of life.
