Small batch coffee history in Lake Charles, Louisiana began with the first coffee beans grown on the property of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Hargrave in 1922. In that year, they purchased a small plot of land at the corner of State and Canal Streets and built their first cupola to roast their coffee. The earliest known customers were members of the local political elite who convened to discussolutions to disputes between themselves over whom should control access to what type of beans. From that day forward,Mr. Hargrave's small batch operation was an important part of the city's cultural infrastructure as it played an essential role in developing its identity as a center for education, business, fashion and culture.

Henry had become the city's largest coffee importer and producer, selling beans direct to consumers across Louisiana and Mississippi. In the 1960s, the local brewing company known as The Horseshoe Brewing Company merged with two other companies to form what is now known as Deming Coffee Corporation. In 1969, Deming Coffee Corporation became an affiliate of National Coffee Associates (NBCA), one of the world's largest coffee companies with operations throughout North America. NBCA helped promote Lake Charles as a key center for coffee-production activity within North American manufacturing facilities responsible for supplying 100% of the global market for roasted beans
Lake Charles, located in Lafourche Parish, is a small town located on the banks of the Mississippi River. The population was 5,521 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat for Lafourche Parish and the largest city in Louisiana. Lake Charles was founded by French colonists in 1718 as Port Royal. In 1836 it became capital of Louisiana and remains so today. The city's layout reflects its history: a large central square flanked by two narrower squares measuring about 1/2 mile (0.16 km) wide each, with PROCESSING and STORAGE departments between them on one side and HOTEL DEVICES on the other. Today LakeCharles still considers itself "the most liveable city in Louisiana." The economy of Lake Charles is based primarily on manufacturing, transportation, food processing and retail trade; however, some services such as health care are also important to the community. There has been coffee brewing for centuries, with different methods and techniques used. The first small batch coffee was brewed in a clay pot on the outskirts of Damascus in 653 A.D. This method involved crushing whole beans and then mixing them with hot water and some milk to make a weak drink that could be consumed by friends or sold to traders. The first espresso machine was invented in 1912 by Italian inventor Luigi Bezzuoli. He created the first machines that used steam pressure to create espresso, which became popularized in Italy. Coffee was shipped all over the world before it became mainstream in North America in the early 1800s. In 1846, entrepreneur Nicholas-Jacques Conte founded La Caza Coffee Company, which is considered to be the first modern coffee company. With this company, Conte started selling coffee through retail stores across New York City. In 1886, Dutch entrepreneur Johannes van der Tuin founded Nieuwen Zee Coffee Company, which is considered to be the first Dunkin’ Donuts store location

Lake Charles was founded by the French in 1729. The area now known as Louisiana was part of the New France colony, and when hostilities ceased in 1763, the British took over. In 1800, Lake Charles became a stop on the International slave trade route between Africa and America. The city's white population rapidly grew during this time, and by 1810 it had a population of over 100,000 people. In 1815, Lake Charles became an important center for cotton production due to its location at the mouth of the Mississippi River. By 1830, however, cotton production had become depleted and city officials began to consider moving the plant elsewhere. In 1836, Mayor James Knoppers founded what is now called Knoppersville to serve as a town square around which he planned to build his own large home. This village would eventually gain notoriety for being one of the most cursed places in Louisiana because of its numerous murders and suicides that have taken place there over the years. Lake Charles experienced another growth spurt during this time with new businesses opening up such as hotels and stores. However, racial tensions continued to grow throughout these years with African Americans living near white populations in difficult conditions. On July 4th of 1861, two African American slaves were run down and killed by whites in downtown Lake Charles after refusing to be sold into slavery. This event helped spark a series of race riots that occurred throughout southern Louisiana that year. Despite these challenges, Lake Charles continued to thrive through these times thanks largely to its citizens' dedication to their community and their desire for education and opportunity for all types of citizens alike. In 1923-24 local residents constructed what is now known as historically significant Briggs Park which served as a commercial hub during this time period before becoming an Important Site Conservation District in 1984-85 (United States Historic Preservation Service). Today Briggs Park remains one of redeveloped areas within LakeCharles with many different uses including housing developments; arts & culture venues; restaurants; retail stores; government office buildings; etc., making it one OF THE LARGEST PARKS IN LAKERCHESTER COUNTY!
Lake Charles was founded by French colonists in 1765. The city was named after Captain Louis-Jacques Cadillac, who built the first European settlement here. By 1811, Lake Charles had become a commercial center with salt and sugar production leading to its designation as the "Sugar Capital of the World." In 1871, Lake Charles became an important rail junction and served as a shipping point for goods sent from Baton Rouge and New Orleans.
