On February 12, 1945 Lexington participated in strikes against airfields near Yokosuka Prefecture which resulted in destruction of twelve Japaneses planes including one Do 217 “Kamikaze” bomber flown by Colonel Minoru Yamamoto On March 2nd Lexington supported carrier battle groups striking targets north of Kyushu resulting 4 destroyed aircraft including two KA-24 "Sakura" fighters flown by Lieutenant Commander Goto Takeo On April 1st when Battle Group 38 returned from their strike against Shimonoseki Harbour these strike groups united under Rear Admiral Nimitz's direction attacked Truk Atoll using carrier based planes during Operation Moondust which resulted in 8 enemy aircraft destroyed or captured without loss to our forces

Minden was founded by French colonists in 1765 as "Ménéville." The name may be derived from Menilio, an Italian explorer who explored the Mobile Bay region in the early 16th century. The original village had a post office and two churches until 1814 when it became part of Jefferson Parish. In 1836, John C. Belcher bought land east of Minden and laid out what would become Minden Village on a grid pattern with streets running north to south and east to west. He named his new community after his friend and mentor General James Kenedy, who had led American forces against Mexico during the Mexican–American War (1846-48). Kenedy had been born in Ireland but spent most of his life living in Louisiana before he died there in 1854. While Kenedy's death did not actually bring about Minden's incorporation as a village, it does appear that he helped to spur its growth; by 1840, Minden boasted five stores and several homes Belchertown was also founded near Minden Village by Colonel Nathaniel Banks shortly after its incorporation as a village on November 15, 1840; Banks named it for himself and his older brother Major George Banks (1796-1866), both Ulysses S. Grant’s uncle and later United States Senator from Illinois). On October 25th 1935 Mrs Rankin closed her store due to financial difficulties which forced her daughter Lena Mae Rankin ()—an accomplished artist—to take over operations . Minden, Louisiana was founded on April 1, 1837 by John Minden and his wife, Sarah. The town was named after the Battle of Minden in 1813, which helped conclude the American Civil War. Minden was a small community located in Caldwell Parish and thrived until World War II when it began to decline.
