Small batch coffee has been a part of the Natchitoches community for over 50 years. The first small batch Coffee Shop opened in 1951 and was located on State Street in downtown Natchitoches. The shop was run by the local grocery store owner, Mrs. Hildebrandt, and her husband, Mr. Weiland. They sold coffee to residents of the town as well as tourists from Louisiana and Arkansas. In 1969, Mrs. Hildebrandt moved her business to its current location on Beauregard Avenue in downtown Natchitoches. Her son, Larry Weiland Jr., continueded to operate the shop until it closed in 2006. From 1966-1969, Bob Kappelman operated a small batch coffee house called 'The Dutchman'. He brewed his own coffee and served it at his house until he decided to open a larger roastery near New Orleans in 1970. This allowed him to sell coffee directly to consumers instead of through Mrs Hildebrandt or Mr Weiland which made it more convenient for customers and allowed him to continue making quality smallbatch coffees while serving them fresh each morning from his home kitchenette! In 1984, Donnie's Coffee House began brewing their own small batches of coffee using certificated beans from Java Hill roasters in San Francisco Bay Area California! From there they ventured into other territory such as Illinois where they brew their small batches at three different restaurants before moving back home permanently within two years! By 1990 they had opened up another restaurant called Donnie's Big Boy Cafe which became known for its large quantities of rich chocolate milk that came with their unique 'small batch' coffee! In 2001 they relocated again when Donnie's vacated their longtime spot at 94th St & I-10 W between University Boulevard & Faulkner Highway - this new spot served as home base for #5 Brewing Company until 2013 when that business closed down also due to lack of patronage! Natchitoches is a small town located in Bossier Parish, Louisiana. The population was 9,869 at the 2010 census. Natchitoches is known for its cotton plantations and its annual plantation fair which attracts many visitors from around the world. The first people to live in what is now Bossier Parish were the Caddo Indians who migrated from Texas in the 18th century. In 1762, General James Wilkinson founded Baton Rouge, Indiana on the banks of the Arkansas River. He named it for his old friend and general of British troops, Nicholas Calliope Wilkinson (1719-1775). calliope was a general during the American Revolution and distinguished himself by hisgallantry at Yorktown Heights near Philadelphia. Wilkinson's daughter married French trader Claiborne DuBois (1750-1827), who had come to Louisiana in 1781 as part of the Louisiana Purchase from France. The two families lived together at Fentonville on Lake Pontchartrain until 1830 when they moved to Natchitoches where Claiborne built Mobile House on land he acquired from Jean Lafitte (1688-1794). In 1800, Claiborne built a cotton mill on Grand Gulf Island which became one of America's largest cotton mills. By 1810, his mill had produced more than one million pounds of cotton each month. In 1815, he donated land to establish an Agricultural College in honor of his father-in-lawoine Pierre Laclède (1772-1846), an eminent scientist who had helped develop modern transportation methods across North America and Europe. The college was opened in 1821 by Governor John Alcorn (1800-1865) with gifts fromClaiborne DuBois and other leading citizens of Natchitoches.
