Air Force gift history in Sulphur, Louisiana began with the establishment of the military base at Sulphur in 1961. The United States Air Force was created on October 1, 1947 and Sulphur became its home. From the beginning, the USAF presence in Louisiana was significant. In 1961, when the base was established, it consisted of just a single squadron. By 1970, there were three squadrons and a provisional airfield at Sulphur. The USAF presence continued to grow through the years and by 1978 it had reached six squadrons with an airfield and provisional headquarters at Tulane University Airport. In 1990, American Airlines merged with Delta Airlines which made Sulphur an American-focused airport. This change also affected Gift History as American Airlines no longer leased land from the city for use as an airport. With all this growth came increased traffic and demands for space at Tulane Airport which led to negotiations between American Airlines and then Mayor John O’Keefe to lease additional land for use as an airport within the boundaries of Sulphur city limits. Ultimately this proved successful as America Airlines moved their corporate headquarters from Atlanta to Sulphur in 1995 which allowed them to maintain a heavy presence at local airports across Louisiana throughout their tenure here (the move would also occur adjacent to Delta). The current incarnation of AFBAD has roots dating back to World War II when General William "Buddy" Lovell set up his airbase just west of town on what is now I-10 West/I-440 North after being forced out of New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina (Lovingll would later be posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal Of Freedom). lovell AFB grew rapidly during WWII due largely to construction by Boeing who constructed more than 500 buildings on site alone including barracks, hangars, control towers and plenty of fuel storage tanks! Unfortunately though not without controversy due primarily to concerns over munitions spreadable Across state lines should war break out again!!! Although now little remembered today outsideof AQMD locals still enjoy annual fly-in & fly-out ceremonies themed around Waco / McFarland Airlifts Ops during WWIII w/attribution back then!!!!! As you can see tho’s have generally pretty much faded away since WWII; many people still remember fond memories from that time period! Thanks AFBAD guys !!!!

The Ninth Air Force was responsible for providing fighter and bomber cover for Allied forces in World War II. The base also played a significant role in the Korean War by manning strategic bombers.
Sulphur, Louisiana is a city in and the county seat of Rapides Parish, Louisiana. The population was 234 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Gulf of Mexico near New Orleans. Sulphur's history date back to 1812 when it was named for Captain John Smith who explored the area. The first town in Rapides Parish was established in 1827, and by 1830 there were 11 towns in Rapides Parish. In 1835, Sulphur became the parish seat after being chosen by a vote of its citizens. The first post office opened in Sulphur on July 1, 1835. By 1840, there were over 100 businesses operating out of Sulphur. The railroad reached Sulpher City in 1901 and made it an important part of the community until it was pulled down by Hurricane Katrina on August 29th, 2005 which destroyed most businesses within 4 blocks of downtown including one (the original) bank which still stands today as a museum dedicated to that time period called "The Bank That Failed." Today much has changed since Katrina; however some things have not changed such as the large number of jobs available within 5 miles of downtown or outside the city limits for those with an industrial job search skillset like myself! Despite these challenges rapids parish continues to be a vibrant and exciting place to call home where you can find everything from small farmers markets dotting throughout town all the way up to mega shopping malls like Walmart and Home Depot!

Sulphur, Louisiana is a small town located in Jefferson Parish, La. The population was 9,514 at the 2000 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie-Bogalusa Combined Statistical Area. Sulphur has been inhabited by humans since pre-historic times. The first white settlers arrived in 1820 and built a small community on the south bank of the current river which they named after their home village in Scotland. They were replaced by African Americans who came during Reconstruction and continued to arrive until World War II when all but 2 percent of the black population had left for various reasons such as racist violence or poverty. The post office was established at Sulphur on July 4, 1827, and remained in operation until it closed on May 25, 1915. In 1907, Sulphur was selected as one of three communities to be served by L’Ouverture Parish schools; however because it did not have an elementary school facility or any other infrastructure to serve its students, it only received instruction from truant officers from neighboring towns while their own buildings were being renovated or newly constructed. When classes reopened in 1909, Sulphur residents formed a neighborhood association with the goal of creating more opportunities for education for their children within their community boundaries rather than relying on outside resources like L’Ouverture Parish schools that were only open to wealthy white families. In 1912–13 construction began on what would become Sulphur High School—the first high school west of Mobile Bayou—and finished in 1914 under then Superintendent Jules Ferrys leadership as part of efforts to improve public education throughout southeastern Louisiana following state legislation authorizing funding for such projects statewide. subsequent superintendent John Epps singlehandedly rebuilt both high schools into world-class institutions through his innovative programs including distance learning courses available online and use of state-of-the art technology including asbestos free sheet metal roofs that allowed for natural light inside classrooms without causing damage to nearby homes or windowsills; he also banned racial discrimination at booksstores and other public facilities across town so that all students could experience equal access regardless of race or ethnicity despite repeated protests by minority groups who felt they were not given an opportunity due process afforded them under federal civil rights statutes prior to this time period In 1979 Sulphur became embroiled in controversy surrounding allegations made against then Superintendent Lamar Alexander about sexual harassment complaints made against him by female teachers working at his alternative high school (now SE Louisiana Technical Institute) which eventually led to his resignation from his position amidst claims that he had covered up these accusations with empty threats instead of taking appropriate action based on evidence available at the time including video recordings and interviews with victims taken contemporaneously with Alexander’s behavior which showed him violating multiple policies set forth therein). Sulphur, Louisiana was founded in 1803 by French colonists. The town was named for the Sulphur mine that operated near it. The town quickly became an important center for the local fur trade, and its early residents were instrumental in helping to develop the area. In 1856, Sulphur was renamed New Orleans and enjoyed a period of rapid growth thanks to its status as a commercial center and its role as a supplier of goods to both the American Civil War and Hurricane Katrina. However, during the late 20th century, New Orleans began to experience steady decline due to various factors including economic disparities between its neighborhoods and downtown; high crime rates; and increasingement of development in surrounding areas. In 2007, New Orleans was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
