The Marine Corps has a long and proud history of deployed gift giving. The Marines have been stationed in various locations throughout the world, and they are known for their Marksmanship Qualification program (MQB). This program allows cadets to train with firearms and receive instruction on how to shoot. As part of the MQB program, cadets are also given gifts that will help them in their military career. Gifts can be anything from items related to hunting or fishing to tools or equipment. Since its inception, the Marines have sent representatives all over the world to give gifts to troops who serve abroad. Some of these deployments have been very long-lasting, such as Operation Iraqi Freedom where Marines stayed for over two years. In Sulphur, Louisiana, the Marine unit known as 3rd Battalion/5th Marines has a long tradition of sending members abroad with gifts. The first time this unit sent someone away with a gift was in 1965 when they shipped an American Helicopter back home after deployment in Vietnam. Since then, the battalion has sent more than 20 marines away with gifts including rifles and shotguns along with other equipment and supplies. Many of these deployments have been short-term stints where they are sent home for a few months before returning again another year later. However, there is one deployment that stands out above all others; Operation Desert Storm where they stayed for almost two years! This was a very important operation because it helped solidify America’s relationship with Saudi Arabia which was unstable at the time. The Marine Unit here in Sulphur continues to send members abroad with gifts today; most recently it was announced that they will be sending a soldier home with a laptop!

The oil fields were a major Factor in Sulphur's growth as a lumber town. In 1916, Sulphur became an official city and it has since grown to be one of the most populous cities in Louisiana.
Sulphur, Louisiana is a town in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,844 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Baton Rouge Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name Sulphur comes from the French word "soufre", meaning "sulfurous" or "odorous". The first permanent white settlement in what is now Sulphur was made by colonists led by Jean Lafitte in 1769. In 1812, General Andrew Jackson's army destroyed Fort St. Password on the Red River near present-day Sulphur after capturing it during the Mexican-American War. This event is also considered to be when Sulphur became a U.S. military post and began receiving goods and services from American merchants and farmers who built up its economy until it boasted a full complement of stores and businesses by 1825. In 1821, General Zachary Taylor established an arsenal at nearby Baton Rouge to supply his army with cannon fodder during the Mexican War of Independence as part of his campaign against Mexico City's president Antonio López de Santa Anna; this armament helped contribute to America's victory over Mexico that year. The Battle of Fort Donelson in 1862 resulted when Union forces under General Robert Ewell attacked Confederate troops entrenched on two hills east of present-day Sulphur after learning about their position from local scouts; this battle ended with Unionvictory and Wernher von Braun's development of rockets which allowed Allied forces to win World War II through strategic bombing campaigns such as Hiroshima and Nagasaki The old cotton gin located on Main Street between Bellefontaine Avenue and Elmhurst Drive used for drying cotton bales until 1925 when it been converted into a home for various parish government offices including public schools until being sold to New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin in 2002 for $2 million In 2006, Hurricane Katrina caused extensive damage to some buildings within downtown Tulane University where students were living before being transported northward towards New Orleans; these students were later relocated back south toward campus while repairs continue apace There are plans underway by city leaders to redevelop downtown Tulane University into an urban arts district anchored around a new health center with retail space across three blocks
