Zachary, Louisiana is a small town located in the parish of St. Bernard in south Lafourche County, Louisiana. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. The area that now makes up Zachary was first settled by French colonists in the early eighteenth century. The first post office opened in 1837 and the town was named for General Zachariah Bourgier, who fought with distinction during the Mexican-American War.
