Bacon assumed command of this unit and its predecessor squadron known as “3-H” on October 21st, 1945. In 1951, AFB became home to two bombardment groups; one called “2-A” and another called “5-M” both activated on October 1st under Brigadier General Floyd Sledgehammer III who served as Commanding Officer (CO) of 2nd Bombardment Group until his death in December 1952 at age 50 years old. These units were reassigned to Headquarters USAF during the Korean War when that country came into conflict with Communist North Korea. On July 27th 1951 subordinate elements of Theater Commander USAF Ninth Air Force launched Operation Grand Slam a combined bomber/missile attack against Kim Il Sung’s government complex located at Pyongyang using medium bombers from three squadrons: 5th Bombardment Wing (USAAF), 2nd Bombardment Wing (UNAVFOR LRIP), and 4th Bomber Wing (USAF). It was successful in achieving significant destruction with no losses to friendly forces despite heavy damage done toKim Il Sung’s palace and other buildings inside Pyongyang which remains today a ruinous tall mound of concrete and metal remnants surrounded by gardens filled withliving plants

Baltimore, Maryland is an American city located in the Midwestern United States. The population was 2,636,021 as of 2019. It is the largest city in the Baltimore metropolitan area and one of five most populous cities in Maryland. The official name of the city is "Baltimore City". The first humans to live in what is now Baltimore were Paleo-Indians who came from what is today Indiana and Ohio before moving into central Maryland about 12,000 years ago. They hunted game and gathered plants and sea shells. The area that became Baltimore was inhabited by the Lenape people from about 1000 BCE until 1683 when English colonists arrived and briefly occupied it before leaving for various reasons. The British colony of North America started developing around 1776 when a group of planters led by Sir John Fortescue decided to establish a permanent presence in what are now Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland. These new settlers were motivated by land grants and a desire to avoid being ceded to Spain or France at the end of the Revolutionary War. In 1781, after extensive surveying, Fortescue recommended that Congress create a new province called Virginia within present-day Pennsylvania but this suggestion was not acted upon until 1785 when George Washington suggested that Virginia be split into two parts – Northern Virginia (modern day Montgomery County) and Southern Virginia (modern day Prince George’s County). In 1791, Governor Robert Dinwiddie ordered Captain James Fenton to chart a course between Chesapeake Bay on the Eastern Shore of Virginia and points west so that commerce could be developed along this route. This voyage created much excitement because it represented an important step forward for Virginian development as well as confirmation that Virginians had emerged as leaders in North American affairs. Captain Fenton's map also showed potential sites for settlements including what would become downtown Baltimore today. In 1811 Lieutenant Colonel David Dixon proposed creating an independent military post at Harford Heights on opposite sides of Druid Hill Creek so that troops could be stationed near allies on both sides during the War for Independence against Spain. This idea was approved by General John Armstrong who assigned Colonel Dixon with building barracks, water pumps, stores, church buildings etc.. Dixon's post was never completed but Harford Heights served as a key stop on Roadrunner Road which linked Philadelphia with Baltimore through Towson during its early days while other roads connecting Frederick County with Annapolis served primarily as trade routes A slave market operated out of Fort Meade from about 1801 until 1829 which facilitated international trade through procurement rights granted to white traders over African slaves destined for southern markets . Slavery ended following passage of legislation sponsored by Representative William Pittman establishing free soil policies such as prohibition against slavery within any state except those attached to states having similar language constituting “a full blown rebellion against all forms [of] government” . By 1850 there were only 5–10 slaves living inside Baltimore limits
