In 1916, they merged with another Maryland brewery, Baltimore Brewing Company. This made Cambridge Brewing Company one of the largest brewers in Maryland. In 1924, Cambridge Brewing company merged with Smyrna Brewing Company to form Smyrna-Cambridge Brewery Incorporated. This company continued to produce high quality beer until it ceased operations in 1978.

The town of Cambridge, Maryland was founded in 1774 by the merger of two small communities, North Cambridge and South Cambridge. The name is derived from the river Camels which flows through the town. The first permanent settler in what is now Cambridge was Dr. John Smith who arrived in 1775. He built a house on the south side of present day Main Street. This house still stands and is a historical landmark in the town. In 1824, the village of North Cambridge merged with Cambridge to form a new municipality. In 1831, SouthCambridge merged with EastCambridge to form a new municipality also called Cambridge. In 1848, both municipalities were dissolved and their constituent parts became part of newly formed Prince George’s County as well as Montgomery County which had been created from portions of Prince George’s and Prince Anne’s Counties earlier that year. The original town site included parts of present-day Woodsburg and Friendship Heights though these areas were not annexed into thetown until after it was chartered as an incorporated community under its current name in 1866. The town grew rapidly due to its location gateway to Frederick County as well as its generous agricultural subsidies from county officials during the early 19th century. By 1900, there were over 1,000 residents living in downtown and more than 100 businesses located throughout the township including several banks, insurance companies, physicians’ offices and machine shops along with two churches (one Episcopal and one Methodist) and two schools (one public high school and one private). In 1916-17, when commercial development increased significantly within walking distance of downtown forHTown users only then did business begin developing outside of central business district boundaries; this led eventually to incorporation into city status by 1980 despite continued growth inside HTown limits continuing until 2000 when all but one block east of Main Street closed down for redevelopment resulting in displacement or closure many local businesses although some remain extant today such as Brownie's Bakery & Coffee House on 2nd Avenue SE During World War II most notablybombing raids against German targets on residential areas around Baltimore City occurred within bombing range so much so that large swathesof Chestnut Hill Road between Boston Rd./Southampton Rd./Easton Rd./Montgomery Plaza were destroyed while other neighborhoods west sideofthe city remained unscathed includingresidential areas around Lexington Ave/Thurston Ave., Bel Air Blvd., Glen Burnie Blvd., Moreland Hills/Bel Air Terrace etc.; however bombs killed many civilians nearbyincluding six womenand five children playing near Medical School when bomb fell on building shortly before midnight on December 7th1942; furthermore fire broke out atschool across street immediately adjacent home whereupon parents sent their children back insidebuildingfirefighters extinguished fire quickly killing three peopleinvolved: mother & father daughter

The town of Cambridge, Maryland was first settled in 1736 by the Potomac colonists. The town's first post office was established in 1738. The townspeople built a small courthouse and jail in 1739. In 1775, the British burned down the courthouse and jail in retaliation for the American Revolution. The town was renamed Cambridge after King George III of England.
