Elkton is a small town in Prince George’s County, Maryland, United States. Elkton was founded in 1789 by John and Susannah Elkinton. The first post office was established in 1802. The population of Elkton was 514 at the 2010 census. The town is located on the North Branch of the Potomac River, east of Washington D.C., and west of Fredericktown. It has a total area of , including . The original residents of Elkton were German settlers who arrived in 1789 from Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany. They operated a mill near present-day Elkton Village until 1800 when they moved to what is now known as Easton Township and built a gristmill there. In 1802, the first store opened in town and soon after an academy was built for local children, which continued operation until 1915. In 1865, Elijah Burch bought land north of town from Nicholas horse dealers for $1,000 and began to build what is now known as Burch Heights subdivision which included much of today's downtown Elfington Avenue/Burch Road area as well as parts of present day Old Town Elmington and West Elmington neighborhoods on this property. A post office was established at Burch Heights in 1868; it remained open until 1969 when it merged with nearby Fredericktown to form today's downtown Elmington (Fredericktown) village government center district (GVD). This period also saw some significant growth within the community due to the railroad construction that took place along I-95 just south of town during this time period; many new businesses became operational thanks to transportation changes that came about during this time period such as increased access to markets outside Baltimore or Washington D.C.. This era also saw heavy industry come into play with mills like Teakett Paper Company coming online around this time frame while other businesses started up such as Wernher Beer Company which produced beer for local consumption before becoming alcohol production operations later on throughout most if not all eastern USA during this particular phase... With changing times comes change - more people started moving out into suburbs during this phase making WAY more space available for development within Downtown Elmrington than ever before! In fact over halfway through our paper we find out that folks are growing restless with their lack OF development options so we'll have to add another section sometime soon about how music & nightlife are flourishing without having TO leave Downtown Elmrington!
