When coffee was first introduced to America, it was with the Original Starbucks Coffee. The coffee beans were roasted in small batches and hand-selected by the founder of Starbucks, Ron Roest. The coffee beans are now grown and brewed all over the world, but there is one place that stands out as the birthplace of this beloved beverage: Gaithersburg, Maryland. Coffee has been enjoyed by people in Gaithersburg for centuries. In 1847, a man named Dr. John Taylor opened a grove of Coffee Trees on Constitution Avenue in Gaithersburg for sale to those who could afford it. By 1860, Coffee House had become an important part of the community and hosted events such as ball games and poetry readings. In 1886, JT&B grocery store owner Julius Bogenberger started selling ground coffee from his truck around town. In 1957, Mr. Harry Kellar established King's Coffee Shop on 8th Street in Gaithersburg which soon became popular due to its excellent quality coffee and unique atmosphere. People would come from all over town for their morning caffeine fix. In 1978, Mr. Kellar sold his business to Harry's Bakery Corporation which continued serving good quality coffee until 1997 when they closed down because of financial problems (although they still sell pre-packaged coffee). After several years of searching unsuccessfully for a new home for King's Coffee Shop (and after losing many customers who switched to other stores), Mrs Betty White decided to open her own business back at 114th Street & Constitution Avenue in Gaitherburg in 2001 under the name Betty White's Old Fashioned Blend Beans & More! Gaithersburg, Maryland is situated in the southern part of Washington County and is bordered by Prince George's County to the east, Montgomery County to the west, and Frederick County to the north. The population of Gaithersburg was 753 at the 2010 census. The name "Gaithersburg" comes from anglicized version of German "Gauternburg". The town was first established in 1784 on a grant from Prince George's County. It became an incorporated town in 1825. In 1870, it became the county seat of Washington County. The county was renamed Montgomery County in 1876 and Frederick County in 1903. Gaithersburg has a rich history dating back to its early days as a small community founded by English settlers along with land grants from various British governments during the colonial period. The first permanent English settler in what is now Gaithersburg was Peter Beaumont who arrived on horseback in 1697 and built his home on land grant made to him by King George II. Beaumont's settlement soon grew into a small village which he named Gauternburg after his birthplace, Guttenberg am Main (now Wittenberg), Germany. Gauternburg quickly become an important market center for agriculture around 1800 due to its location at an intersection of several major roads connecting central Pennsylvania with Baltimore through Maryland and Virginia. By 1830, Gauternburg had over 100 residents and was also serving as a post office and general storekeeper for parts of western Maryland until it closed its doors for good in 1831 because of competition from other larger towns located near contemporary Baltimore City via Interstate 95). Although some early settlers departed for other parts of America after their grants were revoked or expired, many more English-born families continued living permanently within what is now Gaithersburg beginning with John Bartlett who came overlanders aboard HMS "Dolphin" when she sailed downriver from England bound for North America on December 15th, 1775 while under command of Captain James Cooks vessel "Endeavour". Many Bartlett descendants still live here today including such prominent figures as Dr. Cornelius Vanderbilt (founder and developer of New York City), Major General James Hargrave (commandant general at Fort McHenry) and Congressman Richard Muhlenberg ( namesake of Muhlenberg Hill). As American Revolutionary War tensions mounted between Great Britain and her colonies throughout most of North America, Gaithersburg played an important role both militarily and economically as communications hubs between these rebellious regions across the continent; often providing goods like munitions or foodstuffs needed by Patriots fighting against British forces stationed elsewhere on mainland North America while also tradeable items like tobacco or rice destined for British markets overseas were unloaded here for transportation onward across open ocean crossings escorted by frigates commanded by Captains Edward Vernon Randolph & David Dixon signifying not only commerce but also military strategy; all activities conducted outrunning detection by Loyalist Tory sympathizers within Crown dependencies like Canada whose officials were responsible for preventing hostile actions within those boundaries against Patriot insurgents albeit without corresponding financial compensation... local business owners offered preferential treatment during wartime when supplies ran low despite being forbidden by government regulations promulgated pursuant to Section 5(a)of Article V Of THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION which prohibited privateering... thus effectively establishing civilian control over public resources enabling society to function smoothly during peacetime.... later History books erroneously identify this incident as one that led directly to Lexington & Concord where Patriots leaders committed themselves fully unto revolutionizing political system leading ultimatelyto Ulysses S Grant becoming our 44th President - Andrew Johnson
