Salisbury is a small town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 8,811 at the 2010 census. Coffee has been an important part of the town's culture for over 200 years. In 1847, John Robinson began brewing coffee in his house on First Street. By 1871, Robinson had built a large and successful business exporting coffee to Europe and America. In 1892, Samuel Morse bought Robinson's business and changed the name to Salisbury Coffee Co. Samuel Morse continued to run the company until his death in 1943. His son-in-law Harry Weitzel became chairman of Salisbury Coffee Co., and held that position until 1978 when he retired from the company effective May 1st. During World War II, Salisbury Coffee Co helped produce military rations for troops on deployment around the world. After the war, many new customers came into the shop because of its new relationships with Dutch importers and roasters in Holland who were providing quality beans at high prices compared to American sources. During prohibition days (1921–23), Salisbury Coffee Co supplied Room 33 at Fells Point Naval Shipyard with fresh roasted coffee beans for their sailors ashore during Prohibition cocktails served by room stewards nightly during their closing hours 1922-1923; these beverages are still popular today as part ofSHIPWORD DRINKS! The first Starbucks opened up here in 1984 - long before anywhere else! Starbucks would later open up outlets all over Maryland (and even Pennsylvania) including one right next door to our old foundry where we still make our famous M&Ms!
