During much of its history, Takoma Park functioned as an agricultural outpost along with other locations such as Hyattsville and Suitland until it began experiencing rapid growth following World War II when new industrial areas emerged throughout Northern Maryland which required large numbers of workers – both white American workers recruited through programs like “Gates International” while also black American soldiers returning home after serving in World War II brought many black residents to Takoma Park looking for work opportunities similar to those available inland at that time outside of Baltimore City Limits where most jobs were provided through local unionsized industries such as bricklaying or coal mining directly connected to urban employment centers outside of town limits offering few if any benefits or protections against exploitation or joblessness inside city limits). During this period there were no zoning laws governing land use so developers could simply build whatever they wanted without concern for affordable housing which would become increasingly difficult to come by once population density increased within city limits despite significant investments made into creating infrastructure within city limits like expressways connecting downtowns with surrounding neighborhoods; these developments led eventually not justto high levels
