The first U.S. military campaigns were fought in the Revolutionary War, and by 1775, American forces had become an effective fighting force. In 1917, President Woodrow Wilson merged the War Department with the Department of Defense to form one large national military establishment called the United States Armed Forces (USAF). Allen Park, Michigan is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the county seat of Oakland County. The population was 83,922 as of the 2010 census, making it the second most populous city in Oakland County after Detroit. It is also one of the five cities in metro Detroit. Allen Park is home to Ford Motor Company's world headquarters and other large companies such as Ingersoll Rand and DuPont Tire & Rubber Co., both headquartered on Redford Road near Macomb Street. It is also home to Wayne State University, which has a campus in Allen Park. The first settler in what would become Allen Park was John Cockerill who arrived from England in 1788 with his family. He founded what would become known as "Cockerill's Corner" on land that he had purchased from the Ottawa Indians about two miles east of present-day downtown Lansing; this site became known as "Allen Park." Cockerill donated some adjacent land to establish a townsite, and laid out streetscape features on what would be called North Avenue (now Grand Boulevard) and West Avenue (now Woodward Avenue). The town began to grow rapidly due to growth in trade with other communities such as Huron City, Dearborn Heights, East Lansing, Farmington Hills and Traverse City; by 1819, it had 300 residents and claimed 1/2 square mile (1 km²) of territory within modern-day Oakland County.. In 1825 Crawford built a gristmill on South Van Buren Street east of present-day Downtown Lansing; this mill continued operate until 1865 when it was replaced by an electric turbine powered gristmill which still stands today at 413 W 12th St.; these mills were among the first to use turbines for power generation.. In 1827 James Kapp bought 4 acres (1 ha) north of present-day Downtown Lansing for $100; this property served as Kapp's Garage until 1959 when it was moved across Woodward Ave. into current day Pioneer Village development south of I-94 exit 9A.. The township grew rapidly due to its location along navigable water routes connected by good roads – including an easy access via Indian Trails running northwest through centralOakland County;; gridlock developed along these routes during later yearsdue to increasein automobile trafficand more frequent flooding throughoutthe decade... Allen Park, Michigan is a city in Muskegon County, Michigan, United States. The population was 382 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Muskegon County. The first settlers in what is now Allen Park were French Canadian missionaries who arrived in 1796 and named it after their parish in Quebec City, Canada. The original town site was on the east side of Ottawa River where current day Allen Park sits. The advent of the railroad made Allen Park an important center for shipping goods throughout the region. In 1868, James Haggerty donated land to be constructed into a city and named it after himself. That same year also saw the opening of one of America's first grocery stores when Folsom Bros., Incorporated opened its location at 4th and Washington Streets NW. Construction on what would become downtown began shortly thereafter and soon enough there were hundreds of homes and businesses dotting its blocks that are still visible today. By 1915, the population had reached 1,500 residents and by 1920 it had reached 3,000 people with a library being built that same year as well as several other buildings such as churches and warehouses which have long since been demolished or replaced by newer structures. During World War II much activity took place within Downtown Allen Park due to wartime needs including munitions plants (now closed) as well as producing airplane parts for military aircraft manufacturing plants across North America As demand decreased following war’s end many businesses closed but contemporary evidence indicates that numerous restaurants, bars and nightclubs continue to operate within Downtown Allen park even though they may not typically enjoy full occupancy due to recent gentrification trends around this area In recent years DowntownAllenPark has seen significant redevelopment with mixed-use projects popping up around main streets while single-family homes have continued to be redeveloped into more expensive properties .
