The Dearborn Heights Army Garrison was established in 1892 and served as the home of the Michigan Volunteer Infantry until its disbanding in 1917. The Garrison was known for its large Christmas tree, which was often decorated with ornaments and gifts from soldiers and their families. In 1923, the Dearborn Heights Armory was dedicated to serve as an armory for the army. From here, soldiers could purchase ammunition, rifles and other military equipment.
