The town of Dearborn was founded on the east side of Lake Huron by General David Dixon and his army after they successfully repelled a French attack on July 8th, 1812. It was here that Britain's first shipyard was constructed and from here that warships were built for their war against France. After years of construction, HMS "Queenborough" finally docks at Detroit Harbor on December 13th, 1815. This event marks the beginning of what would be one of Canada's most significant naval disasters. A combined American and British squadron consisting of USS " Constitution" (C-1), USS " Perry" (C-2), USS " Decatur" (D-5) and HMS " Guerriero" (G-6) fought off French ships while anchored off Rochefort Pointe on December 12th, 1815. Unfortunately for Canada, all but oneof their vessels were destroyed or damaged by fire before they could return to Canadian waters safely. On July 1, 1809, when Lower Canada became Ontario, Ottawa moved its seat from Kingston to Toronto; however, Toronto's growing population (due in part to waves of immigration) kept it close to its new provincial capital until 1832 when Queen Victoria authorized construction of a new royal palace at Yorkville on Lake Simcoe (now Niagara Falls), which made Toronto dominant as the second largest Canadian province after Quebecois New Brunswick. The first buildings in downtownToronto were built by contractors hired by ProvinceRoyal under orders from Governor General John Graves Simcoe: The Public Buildings Department erected Trinity Church (1810), Parliament Buildings (1812), King's College Chapel (1814), University Hall (1816). In 1833 Ontario passed an act providing for one parish per township within each county; so Dearborn was split into 2 parishes—One with Harper Woods and One with Midland Park—and Macdonald Block No. 4 was erected between them just east of what is now Woodward Avenue between State Street and Keele Street – becoming one of America’s most highly populated urban areas before American cities even began developing rapid transit systems! Dearborn also enjoyed some major commercial successes during this time including being selected as “City No2” by City Beautiful Magazine in 1932 The remaining blocks around Macdonald block Nos 4-6 were purchased by Drury Ford Ltd., developers behind River Rouge Racecourse which opened in 1937 immediately adjacent to their lands Dearborn experienced significant growth during World War II with hundreds of thousands moving into its suburbs while many businesses closed or relocated due to wartime rationing affecting food production
