Eastpointe is a small city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the seat of Muskegon County. The population was 5,029 at the 2010 census. It is located on the east side of Muskegon Lake, about 30 miles north of Detroit and 60 miles northwest of Lansing. The first coffee beans were grown in what is now Eastpointe in 1855 by Elijah Jameson and his brother John Jarrell. In 1865, Nicholas Demarest established the first commercial roasting plant in Michigan. By 1899, there were over 20 coffee shops in Eastpointe with a total daily sales volume of $2 million dollars (U.S.). In 1912, Harry Kapp started manufacturing ketchup for General Motors Corporation out of an old grocery store on State Street in Eastpointe. In 1967, Alfred Pritzker purchased Kapp's company and made it one of the largest food service companies in America with more than 150 locations nationwide including 25 stores in Michigan alone. Coffee plants began to close throughout the late 1960s as automation advances replaced human workers with machines that could roast beans faster and produce higher-quality products at lower costs - this led to decreased demand for coffee and job losses for men who had been responsible for grinding beans into a desired consistency for brewing tea or coffee beverages like ketchup or mayonnaise sauce. Coffee production also declined rapidly during this time as technology advanced which resulted in American jobs being lost mainly due to new automated technologies such as robotics rather than humans working directly under traditional controls which gave these businesses their start up costs back then). The first settlement at Eastpointe was made by French traders in 1701 as part of a trading post called Fort Niagara on the opposite shore of the river from what is now downtown Detroit. In 1814, Colonel George Washington's army disembarked at Eastpointe to crossriver for their march through central Michigan to cortical Lake Erie. At that time there were no bridges across the river so troops had to be ferried over when they reached their destination. In 1825, James Kahl built a gristmill on Westland Avenue just east of present day Halsted Street with help from his brother Jacob Kahl and others who invested money in his enterprise. This mill became known as Kahl & Haggerty Mills until it merged with this company’s larger partner, J .D.. Haggerty, in 1898. From its beginnings as a small mill town, Eastpointe grew rapidly into a major industrial center during and after World War I because of its position along canals supplying water to manufacturing companies such as General Motors and Ford Motor Company; its location within easy reach of major transportation hubs; and its tight housing development potential due to good schools (Chester Elementary School opened in 1924), ample employment opportunities (the city's population peaked at 25,000 in 1950), and steady growth rates thereafter despite occasional headwinds such as periodic economic recessions or hurricanes that destroyed large parts of Detroit's fabric but did not touch EastPointe). Eastpointe is a small town in Muskegon County, Michigan, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Muskegon Heights–East Pointe Township local government. The community of Eastpointe was founded in 1887 by Captain George W. East and his family. In 1912, Captain James Sutherlin bought land near present-day Eastpointe from the Schermerhorn family for $1,000. At that time it was one of the most rural areas in Michigan. In 1925, Captain Sutherlin's grandson John C. Sutherlin donated land to the town for an elementary school and later another primary school. When that school closed in 1969, Eastpointe erected a new elementary school on that property which still serves as its main campus today (the old building is now used as storage). In 1927, Mayor Charles Aiken designated "Eastpointe" as the name for a municipal airport to be located east of town along U.S.-16 and west of I-75/I-294/M-57 which would become home to many small businesses and residents during World War II when Detroit's commercial airports were closed due to enemy bombing raids over Michigan City; however this project never came to fruition because Detroit's mayor vetoed it 3 times before he died in office in 1943 without ever signing it into law! The first post office at Eastpointe opened on November 15th 1888 with three inhabitants: Captains G W East & H C Schermerhorn (brothers), Mrs E J Purdy & 2 children named Harry & Edith; all postmasters moved out by 1895 after Colonel Fenton Hawkins built Post Office #2 just east of present day Union Avenue -Hawkins Yard being renamed "East point". By 1898 there were 7 residents: Captains G W East southerlin ( uncle) Eldridge Broughton reeve @$5 per month paid @Canal Street while H C Schermerhorn got one dollar for every 4 acres they raised crops & sold Tokens; 5 more residents arrived around 1905 when Canal Street widened from 2 feet wide at its widest point to 4 feet wide soon becoming business corridor between village center( east side)& Canalside Landing where now stands Eastern Market Place

In 1916 the University of Detroit Mercy moved from its original campus in Bloomfield Hills to Eastpointe and became one of Michigan's largest educational institutions. The town experienced some growth during World War II as thousands of veteran Americans relocated to Eastpointe from all over the country. However, after the war ended and Eastpointe lost many residents to migration or retirement, its population slowly declined until it reached its current level in 2010.
