Ferndale, Michigan is a city in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and the seat of Kent County. The population was 27,536 at the 2010 census. The city is part of the Lansing-based Metropolitan Statistical Area. The history of Ferndale can be traced back to 1837 when General George Armstrong Custer and his regiment, The 2nd Cavalry, arrived in what is now Ferndale from Indiana. They were seeking new land for their cavalry service and found much to their liking here on the banks of the White River. One result was that four companies of local citizens (the "First Municipality") were organized on February 14th, 1837 as a village with a population of twenty five residents. On July 4th, 1840, it voted to become an incorporated town under the name "Ferndale". In 1852, two townships were added to Kent County - Antrim Township and Brighton Township - making Ferndale fully consolidated with its three adjacent townships by order of Governor John Altgeld. In 1870 it became one ofjs most important railway center in Michigan due to ferries running between Detroit and Lansing; this led to its nickname "The Rialto City" because so many ferries stopped in front of its wharf on Grand Rapids Bay during those years! During World War II there was significant construction activity in nearby Grand Rapids which resulted in increased traffic congestion around Ferndale caused by militarily important plants such as Ford Motor Company's Rouge plant or other munitions factories located just outside town boundaries. To alleviate these problems enough funds were raised through bonds issue which had high interest rates but did provide some relief for residents who had nothing else to do! The Marine Corps is one of the most decorated branches of the United States military. The Marines have been involved in many conflicts and campaigns throughout history, including World War II, the Vietnam War, and Operation Enduring Freedom. They are also known for their gift history. The Marines first came to prominence during World War II. Their service in that conflict was significant enough that they were given their own branch of the military, the Marine Corps Reserve. After the war, marines continued to serve in various roles within the military, but it was during the Vietnam War that they truly broke through as a major force on Earth. In 1968, Lieutenant Colonel Ronald Ladd became Commandant of Marine Corps Forces Pacific after becoming General Counsel for Defense Department's Office of Special Investigations (OSI). At Ladd's direction, marine commanders began developing a plan called "Operation Neptune’s Spear." This plan aimed to secure North Vietnamese infiltration into our country and ultimately achieve an American victory over South Vietnam. This campaign resulted in more than 6500 U.S. casualties and forever changed America's relationship with its neighbor to the south.

Ferndale is a small town in Michigan, United States. The population was 3,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Muskegon Heights– Ferndale, MI Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first residents of Ferndale were farmers who arrived in the area in the early 1800s. A post office was established in 1834 and began receiving mail from outside of Michigan. In 1875, a mill was built in the town and started manufacturing flour and paper products. The mill closed in 1984 but remained an important part of local history until it burned down in 2009. In 1862, General George Armstrong Custer fought his final battle against Indian warriors at Little Big Horn west of Fort Snelling on what is now Ulysses S. Grant Park near Ferndale. This event is also celebrated annually by locals as Ground Zero for America's Military History Museum which opened in 1986 next to the old mill complex on Main Street across from Central High School. In 1865, ferris wheel tickets were first sold here when the Grand Rapids & Mackinac Railway connected Ferndale with Battle Creek and other towns along its route via Stagecoach Road (now I-94). The ferris wheel became an integral part of local culture and commerce until it was shut down during World War II due to wartime restrictions on transportation equipment. The post office reopened after the war and continued serving customers until it closed again in 1971 due to budget cuts by then-Govt.-appointed officials within Muskegon Heights Borough government; this left Ferndale without a postal service for almost 15 years! A new Post Office opened on Main Street adjacent to Central High School (now called "Central Middle School") on October 1st 1978 following a $10 million dollar donation from Irene Truex Knight who chaired the city's planning commission at that time; she had also been one of several people who spearheaded efforts to reopen/ renovate downtown Muskegon Heights after its closure during the 1970s oil embargo era! In 1984, while still operating out of their old building on Main Street,the original owners of J&L Paper Merchants decided they needed more space so they moved their operations into what would become known as "The Mill" which sat behind present day Central High School since that date! They later bought some land adjoining it which allowed them to build what became known as "The Square". Known locally for its lush greenery which lined both sides thereof including front lawn), this property served as home to many businesses over the years including KFC before being donated back to central high school for use as well as more recent buildings used by various municipal offices such as firehouses etc.; currently housing another business called Grosse Pointe Farms apartments! It wasn't until Mayor Chuck Jameson appointed him interim manager/CEO late last year that things changed significantly at TheMill - finally having access to all necessary funding through state appropriations approved by then Acting Governor rom Checagno - leading eventually to widespread restoration/updates including reopening both main entrances onto Main Street (!), brand spanking new asphalt sidewalks throughout entire property (including inside "The Mill"), installation/removal OF numerous historic streetlights throughout facility (including most notably those located just east or northwest of current site line between 2 large trees planted there long ago!), much MUCH TO THE HONOR OF ALL THAT WAS MADE BACK THEN (& MANY MORE TO COME OVER TIME)!!!Ferndale Is Back!!!
Ferndale was founded in 1835 by George Stephenson and others as a railroad town. It grew quickly, becoming one of the most important railway towns in the Midwest. The town prospered because of its connections to railways and its location at the junction of several major routes. In addition, Ferndale became known for its cultural attractions, including an opera house and a variety of theatres. The population also grew rapidly, reaching over 100,000 by 1900. However, during World War I Ferndale was hit hard by the war effort; many businesses closed down and the population fell below 50,000. After the war ended Ferndale began to rebound, with new businesses opening up and the population increasing to over 200,000 again by 1920. However, during the 1930s Ferndale experienced another period of decline; many businesses closed down and the population slumped below 40,000. However, due to new investments in ferries and infrastructure development it has begun to experience a renaissance in recent years; today there is a strong community spirit and significant growth potential within Ferndale.
