The Flint area was first settled by the Pottawatomie and Potawatomi tribes in 1798. The first military unit to be stationed in the area was the “Flint Battalion of Infantry,” which was formed in 1802. The battalion served under General Anthony Wayne during the War of 1812. In 1814, the Flint Regiment of Militia was also organized and served under General Dearborn. During World War I, General John J. Pershing activated the Michigan National Guard to fight in France. Colonel Augustus Mound carried out training for units that would serve in France until he was killed on July 10th, 1918. On October 14th, 1918, Colonel Augustus Mound's body was interred at Fort Snelling Cemetery with members of his regiment at Arlington National Cemetery. On November 1st, 1917, President Woodrow Wilson announced that America would enter World War I along with Great Britain and Russia. After Germany invaded Belgium on March 14th, 1918, America entered war on April 6th as part of an Allied coalition against Germany. The American Expeditionary Force (AEF) consisted of over 146 battalions and companies of infantrymen from across the United States including Flint’s 2nd Infantry Regiment (2IR). The 2IR arrived in France on April 27th and were assigned to 3rd Brigade Combat Team (BCT), Ninth Infantry Division which landed ashore at Juno Beach on May 8th following a three-week voyage from New York City.. During their stay ashore they participated in five major campaigns; Meuse-Argonne Offensive (1918), Arras Offensive (1918), Aisne-Marne Offensive (1918), Hundred Days Offensive (May - September 1918). Upon relieved from duty overseas on September 16th they returned home to Pontiac where they reassembled for posterity before being mustered out on October 9th . With their service record behind them these soldiers are often forgotten but their contributions should not be underestimated considering that much like WWI itself this conflict lasted more than one year!

Flint is a small town in Michigan, located about 25 miles north of Detroit. The population was 52,711 as of 2010. Flint is the county seat of Genesee County. The community of Flint was founded by French colonists in the 17th century and became part of the United States in 1805 when it was given to Michigan Territory. The area now known as Flint was first settled by Native Americans who called it "Kipling's Landing." In 1812, the village was reestablished as the town of Flint and soon became an important commercial center due to its natural resources including lead and other minerals that were available in great quantities near what is now downtown Flint. In 1816, General John Custer led a forces against Ulysses S. Grant at Battle Creek which resulted in many deaths for both sides. As a result of this battle, Governor James Kline ordered Andrew Jackson to march his army into central Michigan so that he could crush any Indian resistance there and remove all their supplies from the area; this action helped spur development in Flint because land grants were then being offered for large tracts of land near Detroit where developers could build homes and businesses. One such developer was George Stephenson who built one of America's first railway lines from Fort Wayne through Indiana to Toledo, Ohio in 1825; Stephenson also developed what is now known as downtown Lansing which began developing around this time. By 1830, much of what exists today within downtown Lansing had been constructed when James Carpenter moved into one of the first houses on State Street between West Huron Avenue and North Grand Boulevard during that year’s construction boom following the discovery of oil reserves offshore off Michigan’s coast! Although early efforts at industrialization were unsuccessful due to low quality local labor (resulting in industries such as cheese production moving away from Flint), progress did eventually be made with breweries like freezing water Works producing beer for local markets while clothing companies like Hollis & Clark produced khaki pants for American soldiers during World War I; also aluminum works opened up along Canfield Road (now Griggs Avenue) beginning producing chickens at an early date) before becoming fully automated by 1957 with production continuing until 1984!
