The first store in town was founded by Captain John S. Fenton on the corner of State and Elm Streets in 1824. Over time, other stores cropped up throughout the city, and until 1899 there were only two grocery stores in town. The first store operated as a general mercantile business, selling everything from groceries to ammunition. In 1886, Captain George Henson opened his own store at 4th and Washburn Streets which became one of the most popular businesses in town. He sold all types of military products including rifles, shotguns, cannons, swords etc. His store was also home to the first post office in Grandville. In 1898, General Motors opened its new factory on the west side of downtown Grandville with an entire floor dedicated to manufacturing military vehicles such as tanks and airplanes. At this point war began between Russia and Japan over control of Manchuria (now China). The company produced weapons for both sides during World War II but is best known for producing gasoline engines for American cars during the Korean War. After World War II ended, many veterans came back into town looking for their old jobs but found that few opportunities existed for them outside of government or defense contracting jobs. With so many people returning after such a long absence from society, it was no wonder that there were so few civilian businesses left active in town by 1950! However, things started to change around 1960 when Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company established a plant on Main Street called “The Factory” which continued production until it closed in 1982 due to competition from Japanese Companies! During this time period there also became more opportunities available for civilians to start their own businesses because often times these companies would get bought out by larger Corporations who then offered job opportunities outside of the military!

Grandville is a city in the state of Michigan, United States. The population was 34,693 at the 2010 census. Grandville is the county seat of Kent County and the largest city in Kent County by population. The current mayor is Kelvin Hahn. The first European to visit what is now Grand Rapids was a French missionary named Jean Baptiste Marquette in 1795. He noted that the river running through it was "a very broad and rapid stream", and he named it after Grosse Pointe on Detroit's west side. In 1814, British troops burned down part of Fort Dearborn to prevent American settlers from establishing a post there. A group of settlers led by Nicholas Merrill founded Grand Rapids on July 24, 1824, following a failed attempt to establish an American town near Detroit on the same site as present-day downtown. In 1827, General James Kapp set up military stores at Beech Point on the Huron River south of present-day Grand Rapids; this became known as Kapp's Landing because Major General John Cushing took possession thereof and stored his goods here until his departure for India in 1828. The landing served as an important supply depot during theboundary dispute with Canada over theauthorship of The Reports ofthe Senate and House (or Canada Reports) which formed part of Ulysses S Grant's famous Kansas Expedition in 1870-71; Canadian forces destroyed most or all of Kapp's Landing circa 1870 when they captured Detroit from Mexico under Gen US Grant’s orders Growth in Grandville began slowly but steadily over time due to its location midway between two major railroads - Northwestern Railway Company’s line linking Chicago with Detroit via Lansing while also providing transportation into Battle Creek for Upper Peninsula farmers – bypassing much larger towns such as Ann Arbor, Lansing or Ypsilanti along that route;self-reliance gradually replaced dependence upon white collar labor during late 19th century………. By 1910,Grand Rapids had outgrown its original boundaries forming what is today Kent County….. By 1920 less than 1 percentof total population growth came from outside sources During World War I Hardesty & Co.,a munitions manufacturer based out of Battle Creek created one of America’s largest military production plants located just east of town at Rockford Army Ammunition Plant(later Rockford Thunderbirds). Hardesty employed millions more men than any other company within America automotive manufacturing due largely to contract negotiations resulting from shortages caused by war years restrictions on imported materials………….. Grandville is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the county seat of Wayne County. The population was 73,868 at the 2010 census, making it the third-largest city in Wayne County after Detroit and Flint. The Grandville Historic District is a national historic district located within Grand Rapids–Lansing metropolitan area. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The first permanent settler in what would become Grandville was Nicholas Merrill, who arrived on October 15, 1824 from Wales with his family. Merrill's brother-in-law John Larkin accompanied him and helped develop what would become downtownGrandville into a thriving commercial center with warehouses, stores, churches and schools as early as 1825. In 1827, three years after Merrill's arrival, construction began on the gristmill that would become one of town's most iconic landmarks – now known as Old Mill State Park – and remain operational to this day. In 1830, when Grand Rapids became an incorporated municipality under the new Michigan Constitution, merchants in downtownGrandville lobbied for incorporation of their town too so they could benefit from same tax rates and other Municipal benefits that were available only to towns with a population over 10 residentships (i.e., cities). After much discussion among mayoral committee members chaired by Mayor Abram Dibbley (later Lieutenant Governor) and including two future Michigan Governors James Kapp (1853-1856) and Horace Greeley (1877), incorporation finally happened on February 2nd 1830 with a population of just 11 citizens; today’s downtown Grandville has more than 100 businesses operating inside its boundaries! One resident who helped promote incorporation via letters patent from then President James Kapp is credited with having coined “The Grosse Pointes” which refers to both Dearborn Street east of Ionia Road southward as well as Addison Avenue northward between LaPorte Boulevard east thereof to Lewis Avenue west thereof – alluding to what would later be called Lansing Heights neighborhoods along those streets respectively! In fact many local businesses still use these names today even if their addresses have changed - such as Grosse Pointe Chevrolet or Lansing Honda! As time went on DowntownGrandVILLEbecame increasingly segregated based on sex gender race ethnicity religious beliefs social class etc etc There are several examples where buildings/neighborhoods were built specifically for whites only while black people continued living near & below Canal Street (& areas around Woodward Ave.) until well into the late 1960s when large changes took place in CentralMI due largely to African American migration
The village of Grandville was founded in 1837 by the Reverend John Gorham, a Methodist minister. The first store opened in 1840. The village prospered until the mid-19th century, when it began to decline due to economic factors such as farming and mining losses. In 1872, Grandville experienced its first instance of racism when two white men were refused service at the local livery stable.
