Theobroma cacao is believed to have originated between 4000 BC and 3000 BC; however, it wasn't until about 1500 AD that its seeds were introduced into Europe through traders working out of India before reaching America shores! On October 15th, 1892, Mr John Fenton set up shop on Nappanee Avenue in Grosse Pointe Woods with his wife Alice to sell their fresh-baked goods including sandwiches and pastries made with maga coffee beans! Grosse Pointe Woods is a town in Wayne County, Michigan, United States. The population was 3,911 at the 2010 census. Grosse Pointe Woods is part of the Muskegon Heights–Oakland Township Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in what is now Grosse Pointe Woods were French Canadian settlers who arrived from Canada in 1814. They called the land "Moulineaux" after one of their leaders, Pierre Moulin. In 1835, the area became part of Detroit and was renamed Grosse Pointe Township. The first store in Grosse Pointe Woods was started by J.H. Morrill in 1850 as a grocery store on Center Street near what is now State Road M-1 (now I-94). In 1865, General John Pemberton made an unsuccessful attempt to purchase all of Wayne County from the Indian Chiefs and organized it into three districts: One for white men only, another for free black men and women and still others for Native Americans. By 1868, all but a small strip ofoak woodland had been acquired by lumber companies and development began rapidly around downtown with several new churches being built including Sts Ignatius Loyola and Saint Joseph Catholic Church (1870), Immaculate Conception Parish (1875), Holy Cross Parish (1879) and Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Church (1881). In 1888 when Grossepointe Woods incorporated as a village it consisted of just over 100 residents; today it has a population of over 4,000 people due to growth within its boundaries as well as annexation by neighboring communities since incorporation.
