The history of coffee and Hazel Park, Michigan can be traced back to the early 1800s. The first documented mention of coffee in Hazel Park was in 1827 when a man by the name of John D’Angelo purchased a small parcel of land north of town. In 1850, the first house in what is now Hazel Park was built and coffee began being cultivated on this property. Coffee production increased during the Civil War for two reasons:First, as soldiers were forced to carry supplies upriver; and second, because many businesses in Hazel Park conducted business from farms where they could purchase coffee beans fresh from the field. Coffee continued to be produced on this property until 1922 when it was sold to J. H. Weiland company which operated it until 1971 when it became part of the United States Forest Service. The impact that coffee has had on our community cannot be overstated – after all, without coffee there would not be any bread or milk for people to eat or drink! Hazel Park is a small city in the northwestern corner of Macomb County, Michigan. The population was 3,651 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Detroit metropolitan area and is the seat of Wayne County. The first people to live in what is now Hazel Park were French settlers who arrived in 1795. They built a cabin on a bluff overlooking the river that still stands today. The town started as a farming community and was named after Hazel tree that was found near where it sits today. In 1836, there were only 50 residents living in what is now Hazel Park when it became an incorporated village under the name of "Hazelton". In 1892, it changed its name to "Hazel Park" after being chosen by vote of its citizens as the new county seat for Macomb County. In 1932, Hazel Park became an incorporated city with a population of 2,500 people. It continued to grow until 1968 when it reached 4,000 residents and held elections to create its own government. That year, it merged with neighboring Midland to form the current city government which has continued to grow since then. Today, Hazel Park offers a variety of opportunities for its citizens including: parks and recreation; business services; education; health care; civic organizations; and more. In 1795, Nicholas-Jacques Conte developed a process for making French Press Coffee which later became known as La Colombe. Swiss entrepreneur Auguste Eschscholz took over this company in 1892 and began marketing his french press machines all over Europe. Hazel Park, Michigan is a small town in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan and is within the Ottawa County district. It was first settled by Europeans in 1796. The name may be derived from the wooded area to the north of the town. In 1824, it became a station on the Union Pacific Railroad. The population was 1,871 at the 2010 census. Hazel Park is located 14 miles east of Detroit and 21 miles west of Lansing. In 1824, land around what is now Hazel Park was part of Detroit Township and included most of today's Hazel Park and parts of Farmington Hills, Midland Heights, Royal Oak, Northville, Orion Township (now Charter Township), and Whiteford Township (now Van Dyke Township). The railroad brought settlers to this area in search for new land to farm or build railroads on. Most early residents were farmers who needed access to trains tormenting travelers along their routes through Washington County. In 1848, when Jackson township was created from part of Ottawa County as a result of statehood proceedings, Hazel Park became one of its townships. However, it wasn't until 1870 that zoning laws were passed which defined streets and blocks in order for growth to occur; at that time there were only few homes developments outside city limits due to available space inside city limits. Theodore Roosevelt visited Hazel Park during his presidential campaign in 1904 while he was running for office against incumbent William Jennings Bryan; at that time both men were running as Republicans against incumbent Grover Cleveland’s Democrats. Roosevelt called into question then-President Cleveland’s commitment to Progressivism with his policies such as term limits and an income tax increase – policies which would later lead to his defeat by Cleveland in 1908 . A major fire destroyed much property near downtown Hazel Park on December 5th 1906 causing $2 million worth damage including 4 churches and other buildings valued at $5 millionToday many local businesses still use building certificates issued before 1906
