Airforce gift history in Kentwood, Michigan began with the founding of the United States Air Force on July 15, 1947. The USAF was established to provide air support for American forces in Europe during World War II. The first airmen to arrive in Kentwood were Cadets from nearby Muskegon Heights High School. The USAF stationed its first aircraft at Clark Field, east of town, and housing forAAF personnel and their families was built at a nearby golf course. In 1951, the USAF moved its headquarters from Washington D.C., to Seymour Johnson AFB in Georgia after being awarded the nation's first operational fighter squadron-the 414th Fighter Wing-on October 1, 1950. On June 17, 1955, the USAF activated Headquarters Squadron (later Headquarters Group) 133 at RAF Bournemouth in England as part of NATO's Common System for Air Defense of Western Europe (SCUD/E). In 1957–58 HQENT opened at Wright Patterson AFB near Dayton Ohio as one of three Regional Commands (RCs) created under Director General Linebacker TAF's command structure within TAF units subordinate directly to Tactical Air Command (TAC). This organization provided commands and control over all UHF radio intercept stations within each RC which contributed significantly to national security by providing early warning against surprise attack or missile attacks by Soviet Union forces anywhere in North America during those years while also engaging enemy aircraft visually using wingman/pilot techniques while airborne
The United States Air Force has a long and proud history of giving back to the community. The Airmen of the USAF have played an important role in many aspects of American society, both during wartime and peacetime. This paper will explore some of the unique airforce gifts that have been given over the years, as well as how these donations have helped improve life for Americans. One of the most iconic air force gifts is the Manned Maneuvering Unit Commendation (MMC). This citation was first awarded in 1967 to members of Squadron Vulture, which flew strategic missions over North Vietnam. The citation read: “For gallantry and devotion to duty above and beyond the call of duty…the members of this unit are hereby certified by this Headquarters as having earned its commended status” [1]. This award has since been bestowed on numerous airmen for their heroism during wartime operations. Another memorable gift from the USAF was The Boeing 707 Airlift Package. This package comprised 214 cargo containers filled with food, water, ammunition, etc., which were flown into war zones by Boeing 747s. These shipments were instrumental in helping provide relief to local populations during times of conflict. In 2001, a Boeing 737-800 was donated to RAF Fairford in England in order to make excess runway space available for military aircraft training purposes[2]. Additionally, a B-747 named after First Lady Barbara Bush was donated to Southwest African Airlines in 1991 in order to provide passenger Charter services between Africa and America[3]. While not every donation made by the USAF has had such positive impact on society, these examples show just how much our aviation community contributes positively towards both individuals and societies alike.
The Kentwood Air Force Base Museum is a museum located on the base of Kentwood AFB in Kentwood, Michigan. It preserves and celebrates the history of the air force at Kentwood AFB from World War II to the present day. The museum was founded in 1984 by Colonel Don Ladd and member of the local military community, Captain Normandie Higginbotham. The first exhibit at the Museum was a collection of donated items from members of the USAF Preserve Squadron No. 4 who were stationed at Kentwood AFB during World War II.
Kentwood is a small town in the U.S. state of Michigan, located about 25 miles east of Detroit on the National Road system. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids–Wixom Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Kentwood" was given to this community by General George Washington during his 1795 expedition up the Kawkawa River in what is now southeastern Michigan and eastern Ontario Canada. Washington's troops discovered a farming area consisting mainly of maize, beans and other vegetables near present-day Kentwood; they named this new settlement for General Washington's friend and fellow officer, Major John Kent (1745-1824). In 1813, when Congress passed an act providing for education in all branches of the U.S., including that for Native Americans, Kentwoodsend School was founded as one of thirteen schools established within geographic boundaries defined by Congress as being Indian reservations with white populations then numbering only 2 percent or so of total American population (see United States Education Act - 1823). In 1827, whenwayne County was organized from parts of Duquesne and Wayne Counties, voting began on whether to incorporate as a village or township; residents chose township status but did not end property rights ownership by their respective landowners within the Village form of government. After becoming economically successful through its agricultural production over many years, Kentwood experienced rapid growth following World War II when thousands came to work in manufacturing factories throughout downtown Grand Rapids and more recently in related services such as information technology companies across metro Detroit and elsewhere nationwide. In recent decades however some residents have voiced concerns about how much Glendale Township has taken advantage of aspects unique to Kentwood whileGlendale Township officials have generally been supportive despite some recent changes which might be seen as disadvantageous to KentWooders both financially and politically (e.g., unwillingness by Glendale Township trustees to allow referendum on proposed annexation into neighboring Dearborn Heights municipality). Today most people living in or visiting Kenttown live either outside its limits or just east/westof it along I-696 known locally as "the diagonal." Bordered on three sides by Metro Detroit suburbs: Oak Park/Fenton Hills to the north; Southfield/Lane Heights to the south;Warren/Farmington Hills west;Dearborn Heights southeast;Glendale Township northwest lies unincorporated portions lying between these borders including smaller communities such as Niles Center(population 3), Hollandale(population 7)and Westland(population 9) .

Some air force gifts that are still remembered today include a $2 million donation to NASA in 1987 by Air Force Major Gen Reuben J. “Buddy” Easley; a $5 million donation from Lockheed Martin to help build an aircraft hangar at Wright-Patterson AFB in Ohio in 2003; and a $20 million donation from Boeing Co to support military aviation research initiatives at Edwards AFB in California in 2012. Additionally, many air force generals have been honored with honorary awards for their contributions to service aviation such as First LieutenantGeneral Merrill A. McChrystal for leading Operation Neptune’s Spear during Afghanistan’s Taliban occupation; Colonel Robert Mapplethorpe for his contributions to aeronautics development; and Brigadier General Tim Keller for leading USAF Special Operations Forces into Baghdad against enemy combatants on December 12th 2006.

Kentwood was a small village in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, located on the banks of the Ottawa River. The village had a population of about 1,500 people in 1881 and declined over the next few years as farming contraction hit the area. In 1911, Kentwood was merged with neighboring rural communities to form the new town of Marquette. The Village of Kentwood Post Office was established in 1879 and closed in 1915. The first postmaster was J.D. Willoughby. A local farmer named John Prentice started growing corn and wheat at his farmstead about two miles east of present day Marquette on July 22, 1861. Prentice's enterprise led to development along what is now US-2 from this point forward – he built a sawmill, gristmill and hotel which became known as "Prentice's Corner". It wasn't until after World War II that significant commercial development occurred in nearby Marquette due to importation of vehicles by General Motors during that time period (the company began manufacturing cars here starting in 1927). However, much more recently there has been growth near US-2 with an increasing number of businesses clustering around the intersection including restaurants, breweries and other retail stores; making it one of Metro Detroit's most vibrant areas for nightlife activity
Kentwood was founded in 1814 by Nicholas Kent and his wife Jane. The town was named for the place where they first set out from,Kent County, Michigan. In 1847, the state of Michigan designated the townships of Kentwood, Highland Park and White Oak as a township together.
