Wisconsin's first coast guard station was built in 1875 on the current site of the YMCA in Madison Heights. The station grew to become a statewide network of coast guard stations and detachments, with a presence in most American cities. In 1927, the state legislature designated Coast Guard StationMadison as the state's primary shoreline security system. The station has continued to play an important role in coastal defense and public safety ever since. Today, Coast Guard StationMadison is home to more than 1,000 personnel from across the United States, many of whom are volunteer firefighters and police officers. The station provides law enforcement assistance during emergencies such as hurricanes or earthquakes; responds to search and rescue requests; conducts basic training for new recruits; repairs infrastructure including docks, breakwaters, and boat ramps; manages programs like Search and Rescue Atlantic (SAR), which helpsmembers find survivors stranded on beaches throughout New England after storms or other disasters. In addition to its traditional responsibilities at Madison Heights YMCA, Coastal Guard StationMadison also operates two shelters-the Morrill shelter located on State Road 41 north of town and the Gulfstream shelter located on Big Bayou Drive just south of town-in order to provide temporary refuge during times of emergency.

The Coast Guard Gift History in Madison Heights, Michigan starts with Captain John W. Haggerty who was appointed on December 1, 1892 and served until his death on October 12, 1951. Captain Haggerty was responsible for the command of the Coast Guard Station at Madison Heights which is now known as United States Coast Guard Station Detroit Lakes. He also served as Commandant of the Coast Guard Academy from 1897 to 1901 and Commandant of the New York State Militia from 1902 to 1907.
Madison Heights is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, located on the eastern edge of the Upper Peninsula. The population was 24,711 at the 2010 census, making it the eighth-most populous city in Michigan. It is home to Wayne State University and United States Steel Corp., two of the largest employers in downtown Toledo. The area that became Madison Heights was laid out as part of what would become Grand Rapids Township in 1836 by John Silliman and other early settlers. The name "Madison" was given to a small stream adjacent to present-day Madison Avenue and North Park Road, likely because General James Madison traveled through this region on his way from Greenville County north to Detroit in 1789. In 1847, General Nicholas Lyon organized what would become Wayne County from portions of Oakland County and Gratiot Township. He named the new county's capital City of Detroit after himself, but due to objections from other commissioners he changed it back to Madison before its first meeting in November 1847. In 1851, when Detroit's charter was amended which allowed for extraterritorial corporations with their own laws, City Hall was built on Dearborn Street between Clairmont Avenue and Woodward Avenue east of Woodward Avenue (now known as Midtown). The first public meetings were held at this location on December 2nd under the presidency of Mayor Augustus Biddle Moore. In 1865–1866 when Fort Cassia closed down due to lack of ammunition some residents took up residence within walls surrounding Arsenal Hill Cemetery where they continued burial until 1902; however today most remain buried within Old Fort Cassia just south off I-75 exit 95A near Trumbull Square redevelopment zone

In 1958 the U.S.-Canada Agreement established an international border between Canada and United States as well as sharing resources such as oceanography and air traffic control throughshared airspace. This agreement solidified Canada’s role as an anchor state in North America with its share in both military exercises and counterterrorism missions against Mexican drug cartels operating from south of the border (Operation Moonbeam). With this increased bilateral cooperation came new opportunities for commerical relationships between both countries including gifts from coast guard units stationed on each side of the border (e.g., Canadian Forces Base Shepherds Bush near Toronto). Madison Heights is one of the most populated areas in central Michigan. The area was originally settled by Germans during the early 1800s and their descendants continue to live here today. The first settler in Madison Heights was Johann Gottlieb Friedrich Bauer, who arrived in 1828. He built a cabin on the edge of what is now known as Park Avenue. The area became popular for hunting and fishing because of its many streams and ponds. In 1837, two other German settlers, Heinrich Schaefer and Wilhelm Kapp, also founded a cabin near modern day Main Street. These three men were responsible for developing this part of Madison Heights into one of the most important communities in central Michigan. During the late 1800s and early 1900s, Madison Heights grew rapidly due to its importance as a farming community and its location within easy reach of both Detroit and Grand Rapids. Many farms here were used to produce crops such as corn, beans, peas, potatoes, apples, onions, celery etc., which contributed greatly to the town's economy during this time period. In addition to its agricultural production capabilities, Madison Heights also played an important role as a transportation hub during this time period because it was located just across the street from several major roads that served both Detroit and Grand Rapids. This made it very convenient for farmers to transport their goods between these cities without having to go through other towns or villages involved in these routes
The first Europeans to visit what is now Madison Heights were French missionaries in the early 1800s. The area was first settled by a group of English settlers in 1837. The first Methodist church was built here in 1839. The area was heavily marketed as a place for agricultural purposes until the late 1800s, when it became an industrial center with tanning and leather industry operations. In 1907, the local post office was moved from Detroit to Madison Heights and remained there until it was closed in 1964. In 1916, Michigan State Highway 3 (MSH3) was routed through this area and other parts of Dearborn County, connecting Lansing with Detroit and other nearby cities. This highway is now grunt street designation MSH-3 Business Loop which runs parallel to I-94 between downtown Lansing and Farmington Hills. In the 1930s, the population of Madison Heights began to grow rapidly due to its proximity to production plants run by Ford Motor Company and Chrysler Corporation. A large housing development called Maple Hill was built in Jackson Township on land that had been owned by Humbert Cadillac since 1881. The development saw heavy construction throughout the 1930s and 1940s as more people came to live near these production plants.
