Mount Clemens, Michigan is a small city located in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is part of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and is bordered by the states of Ohio to the south, Wisconsin to the west, and Minnesota to the north. The population was 7,812 at the 2010 census. The first Europeans to visit what is now Mount Clemens were fur traders from Siberia in 1803-04. A post office was established at Mount Clemens in 1827, but no town grew up around it until after World War II when farmers began moving into eastern Upper Peninsula sections that had been abandoned by their predecessors due to forest clearances for farming purposes. In 1951, with development continuing apace on both sides of the Missaukee River and elsewhere within commuting distance for most people within Greater Detroit area, a village status referendum resulted in majority support for becoming a town in order to attract more businesses and tax revenues; however, Growth City did not take off as planned and finally went out of business in 1991 amidst financial problems unrelated to activity at Mt Clemens Village Center (later known as Mount Clemens Civic Center). Mount Clemens has a rich history dating back more than 200 years including pioneer settlers such as Levi Morton who arrived there in 1836; General George Armstrong Custer who fought at Little Bighorn during the Mexican-American War; John Fetterman who founded Toledo; Judge Isaac Nourse who served on Superior Court from 1861 until his death in 1865; Wm Haines Smith who operated an inn here before he became Superintendent of Schools for Wayne County; Revs Jno Ewing Whitehurst and Nathaniel Southwick Brownlee organized local choirs during Second Great Awakening period; Masonic Lodge No 2 chartered here on October 15th 1840 under present name “Masonic Temple” erectedOctober 25th 1840’ ; Post Office built December 3rd 1827 by Captn John Saginaw under name “Havensborough” – this building still stands today next door to First National Bank Building – also built December 3rd 1827 as Jackson Store House which burned down September 12th 1830 while store was being occupied by Mrs. Chaswell (now Mrs. Arthur Chappell) In 1915 citizens voted 1-1 against incorporation into larger city after rejecting proposition lan guage change which would have given them greater say over city government affairs like zoning changes etc.; instead they reorganized themselves into Township Government with seven council members each elected at large via plurality vote rather than individual nomination/election process In 1916 residents passed resolution urging state legislature not to pass bill creating new township because it would give undue power away from local governments During World War I all male citizens between eighteen and forty were drafted into one or more branches of military service regardless of whether family could financially support them with few exceptions such as physicians and teachers At war's end all men were returned home except those noted below* some women took jobs men left behind including seamstress Esther Lansing * father died suddenly leaving mother alone with five children ages 10 through 16 living on her own $6 per week earnings while husband worked two jobs paying $3 per week together feeding three families also lived subsistence style life expectancy was thirty days without food or water* During 1920s almost all work stopped affecting population since vast majority Okies had migrated eastward many joining American Federation Of Labor (AFL) then becoming powerful political force later

Mount Clemens is a small community located in Washtenaw County, Michigan, about 25 miles northeast of Detroit. It was founded in 1824 by Nicholas Clemens, who purchased land from the Ottawa people. After years of debate over whether or not to annex land around Cleveland (the then-largest city within our borders), it was decided that due to its strategic location and cheap labor costs, Cleveland would become part of Ohio rather than merge with Michigan Territory as planned
