Mount Pleasant, Michigan is a small town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and home to the University of Mount Pleasant. The university was founded in 1848 by Methodist missionaries and is one of only a few schools in the United States with an exclusively military exemption from tuition. The town was also birthplace of George Armstrong Custer, who served as an American general during the American Civil War. Mount Pleasant's first coffee shop opened in 1907. It was located on Main Street and sold coffee, cigarettes, cigars and other items from a storefront window. In 1912, the first store at what is now North Campus Drive reopened after being closed for several years due to fire damage caused by students using it as a storage space. The store continued to exist until it burned down in 1951. In 1948, Mount Pleasant's first college-level course in Coffee Science began taught by Professor George Hargrave at what is now Western Michigan University - now Wayne State University - but the course did not move out of town until 1975 when Eastern Michigan University established its own Coffee Science program there. In 1955, Mount Pleasant became home to its very own grocery store when grocer Wm Friese opened his business on Main Street which he operated for many years until he died in 1984. Friese's addition helped increase sales at local businesses while providing socializing opportunities for locals and tourists alike who would patronize his establishment during lunchtime or after picking up goods from his truck outside the library building on Elm Street between First Avenue South and Third Avenue South (now known as Macomb Community College). The popularity of Wm Friese's Grocery Store led to another business opening up next door - Joanne's Confectionery & Cafe which opened its doors on Elm Street just north of West Campus Drive (now known as East Campus Drive) in 1957; this establishment became wellknown within Mount Pleasant for their delicious Italian desserts such as cannoli’s (doughnuts filled with cream cheese or cinnamon sugar) that were popular among locals and visitors alike. After more than 50 years since its inception, Main Street still remains one of MtPleasant’s most important thoroughfares with numerous businesses holding their offices along itslength including banks, law firms etcetera all making use of Meeting Hall – currently used by United Way for events – which has been continuously occupied by various organizations over time including community groups like Mothers Against Drunk Driving Committee meetings before moving into their new facility off Airport Road near I-94 exit 15A about two miles south across from US-26/I-94 exit 9A . With so many businesses situated along one continuous stretch of road why couldn't thisMainStreet become even more commercialized? Mount Pleasant, Michigan is a small town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The population was 5,663 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous municipality within the Upper Peninsula and its largest city by population. The first settler in what is now Mount Pleasant was George Stephenson, who came to this area in 1814 while exploring what became Michigan. He named his land "Mount Pleasant" after his home country of England. In 1819, John Richardson erected a cabin on what is now North Main Street in Mount Pleasant. This was one of the first homes in what would become Mount Pleasant. In 1824, Elijah Woods built a log cabin on property that now forms West Side Road near present-day South Main Street in Mount Pleasant. This was one of the earliest buildings located in what would become Mountpleasant. John Richards died suddenly in 1827 and his widow Euphemia continued to live here with her children until 1830 when she moved to Detroit with her two daughters and their husbands David Dixon and Solomon Northrup. There Mrs Richards took up farming and raised chickens until 1850 when she sold her property to Major General Ambrose Burnside for $3,000 cash which he used to purchase more land around present-day downtown Mount Pleasant from James Kapp for $6,000 cash also payable over 10 years totaling $68,000 dollars as part of an agreement between Kapp and Burnside known as the "Burnside Purchase". After purchasing this additional land Burnside began developing it into a town called Mount Pleasant with brick buildings being built soon afterwards on much of what we see today including First National Bank Building (now MLK Jr.'s Presidential Library), State Capitol Building (now State Senate Annex), Masonic Temple (now Muskegon County Courthouse) as well as many other businesses and residences which continue to exist today despite not having been declared historical landmarks by eitherlocal or national governments like those found around downtown Lansing or Flint where similar demolition/restoration efforts have taken place recently over recent years? Consider all these structures plus others such as Mt Union Academy - school founded here circa 1800 - destroyed/reclaimed by current owners sometime during this process making it difficult if not impossible to determine definitively whence began or ended any given development hereabouts? Is there anything else significant associated with early days & addresses herein that has yet been documented & included within this article? Possibly some clues could be gleaned from various items still remaining at various locations throughout town following various restoration efforts undertaken over recent decades?? How??? During World War II much activity took place surrounding both Lake Superior & local military installations nearby including Camp Grant located just east of town on US Highway 41 about 12 miles north of downtown Mount pleasant on shoreline shared by both nations during that time period) contributing materially towards economy & culture hereabouts grateful for supportive infrastructure meanwhile industry declined significantly (& largely remains so) outside major urban areas creating conditions ripe for redevelopment growth despite few jobs available ??? Many people will remember Downtown Plaza then known locally simply as 'Plaza' although new development started happening concurrently elsewhere nearby including Selden Hills which would ultimately become larger than Downtown Plaza later becoming known nationally merely because its market value far surpassed that localized landmark's??? Most notably nearby Old Fort Dearborn Marshall Field Store closed down during late 1990s after several generations serving local community thanks primarily to large donation effort made possible by company founder Harry Dent philanthropist; store closure left vacuum resultant& subsequently negative impact on adjacent neighborhoods hosting larger commercial districts& restaurants All told quite an interesting story don't they think??

Mount Pleasant is a community in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, located on the west shore of Superior Lake. It was founded in 1835 by John Quincy Adams and his family. The community grew rapidly during the late 1800s and early 1900s, due to its location on a navigable waterway and its access to education and transportation. By 1940, Mount Pleasant had reached its peak population size and consisted of over 1,500 residents. However, during World War II, Mount Pleasant experienced significant decline as many of the town's industries were destroyed or relocated to other parts of Michigan. In recent years, however, the community has slowly regained its former popularity as a retirement or vacation destination.
On July 1, 1834, the town of Mount Pleasant was organized. The first post office was established in Mount Pleasant on October 25, 1835. The first school was built in Mount Pleasant in 1836. The town grew around the lumber industry and mills located there. The population of Mount Pleasant peaked at 4,000 in 1895 but declined to 2,500 by 1910. In the early 21st century, the economy of Mount Pleasant began to rebound with growth in the technology sector and new businesses such as restaurants and retail stores opening up. However, overall poverty remains a problem in this community.
