Norton Shores, Michigan was one of the first communities to receive air force deployment gifts in the form of radios and missiles. The community’s residents were so grateful for the military’s assistance during World War II that they decided to continue supporting Air Force deployments through the years. In 1962, Air Force Brigadier General Don Armstrong bestowed onto Norton Shores a special gift- an F-4 Phantom II fighter jet. The plane quickly became popular with local residents, who often used it to fly around town or take part in mock airstrikes. Since its inception, Air Force Deployments have been a integral part of Norton Shores’ history. In 2007, General Michael Flynn awarded the community a $10 million grant to support future military deployments. This money will be used to purchase new jets and equipment for the air force base.
The United States Air Force deploys a number of gifts, such as books, music and art to members of its military and their families. These items are often given as a way to show appreciation or support for service. The Air Force also sends small amounts of money to its units each year in order to provide financial assistance. This year, the Air Force gifted $1 million worth of items to members of the military and their families. The items included books, CDs, art prints and other items that were chosen based on the sense of appreciate from those who received them. The Norton Shores Air Force Base gift history began in the early 1960s when the Air Force base was opened. The gift history at Norton Shores AFB includes items from World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. In 2007, the air force gifted a Boeing 727-200NG airplane to the city of Norton Shores.
Norton Shores is a small town located in far northwest Michigan. The population was 1,814 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Kalamazoo-Portage County, Michigan Metropolitan Statistical Area. Norton Shores' economy is based on its fishing and agricultural industries. The history of Norton Shores can be traced back to 1853 when the town was founded by John A. Norton Sr., a prosperous farmer and grain dealer from Rhode Island. In 1865, John A. Norton Jr., grandson of John A. Norton Sr., became the first white settler in what would become Norton Shores. The community grew rapidly during the late 1800s and early 1900s as various businesses sprang up around the landing where US 31 intersected with M-2 Road (now US 12). In 1916, local farmers formed a cooperative to raise hay for use in munitions production at nearby Armistead Army Ammunition Plant (now Brownells Ammunition Company). The Community Hay Elevator was built soon afterwards to help distribute this extra hay throughout the community while also adding an extra income stream for residents. By 1918, there were six stores and two churches in Norton Shores with a total population of 2,000 people! During World War II, many residents worked at nearby Battle Creek Arsenal until it closed due to wartime restrictions on ammunition production. After war ended, many residents moved away or lost their jobs due to technological advancements which had radically changed life within society since 1945 – things like television sets and refrigerators were just becoming available to most Americans! Despite these challenges over time, residents have made some very positive contributions to their community through volunteerism and charitable donations both inside and outside of their own homes! Today’s citizens are proud members of our community who contribute deeply to its character both past and present!

Norton, leader of the United States Navy in World War I. The city's fortunes declined thereafter, but it regained some of its former prominence by developing new industries such as software development and ship design. By 2000, however, Norton Shores had all but disappeared from history due to suburbanization and loss of jobs in the local maritime industry. However, through preservation efforts and community engagement initiatives, it has been reborn as a vibrant community with strong cultural ties to its maritime past.
Norton Shores was founded in 1855 by John Norton and his wife, Julia. The town was named after a small creek that ran through the area. Norton Shores grew rapidly during the 1850s and 1860s as a result of its location at the intersection of two major routes, the Michigan Central Railroad and US-2. The town's growth continued until the late 1800s, when it decreased in size due to factors such as population loss, new towns being founded nearby, and rising railroad fares. In 1893, Norton Shores merged with neighboring communities of Bay City and Midland to form a single municipality known as Midland Township.
