Novi is a city in Macomb County, Michigan, United States. The population was 3,715 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Macomb County. The first settler in Novi was James Ewing and his family on a farm located east of present-day Novi on what is now Decatur Road. They were the first white people to settle in that area and built their home on an upland near where the current Novi Civic Center sits. In 1868, when Ann Arbor was founded as the new county seat, Ewing sold his land to John A. Beemer for $1,000 cash. Beemer named his new settlement "Novi" after him and it became one of the most important villages in Macomb County during its early years. In 1872, Jens Olsen established a sawmill and gristmill at what is now North Avenue and East Main Street in Novi - this mill would become one of the largest employers in town until it closed its doors in 1922. By 1900, there were six businesses operating within miles of downtown Novi: three stores (Jensen's Store & Millinery; Fenton's grocery store; Pohl's bakery), two hotels (the Goodyear Hotel; Grand Rapids Hotel), four churches (Church of Christ Episcopal; Methodist Episcopal; Presbyterian), ten schools (four public schools; six private schools) and seventy-six residents total! During World War II, Novi played an important role as both a supply center for General Motors plants in nearby Flint and as an Army airfield used by fighter pilots training at Saginaw Airport north of town. After hostilities ended, many local businesses closed or went out of business because taxes provided by General Motors no longer supported their operations – including Jensen’s Store & Millinery which continued operation but with smaller profits until it closed completely around 1955 due to lack of customers or competition from other stores within easy walking distance). Despite this setback however, many locals still continue to visit Jensen’s store each week for their favorite refreshments such as pastries and cakes! However several other popular shops within easy walking distance also failed during that time such as Aladdin’s Grocery (closed 1962); Wonder Bread Company (closed 1954); Sears Roebuck & Co.(closed 1957); Bigelow Hardware(closed 1978); Kmart Supercenter(closed 1984). Novi is a small town in the central region of Michigan, United States. The population was 2,828 at the 2010 census. The first settler in Novi was Nicholas Goodrich who arrived in 1837. He named his new community after his brother-in-law, George Novis, an early settler in that area. After several years, Goodrich moved his family to what is now Hastings Township and continued to develop the land around him. By 1849 there were six resident families living in Novi. In 1860, the township was organized with a total population of just 12 residents. In 1865 two brothers by the name of Pemberton bought some more land from Goodrich and began to develop it into what is today Novi Township. They named their property "Pembertonown" after themselves and their brother John Pemberton Sr., also a pioneer in that area. The first post office was established here on October 10, 1866 under the name of New Horizons Station. It served as a stop on stagecoach lines connecting Decatur with Lansing and other northern settlements until 1907 when it became part of Lansing. By 1870 there were over fifty homes built within present day Novi Township and Hastings township itself had a population of 220 citizens; all but one being original settlers from earlier areas around Decatur or Hastings Township who had come to look for better opportunities afterMichigan's statehood column came into effect on July 1st, 1867). With increasing numbers coming through these townships during this time frame things started to change for those living here as well; roads weren't built as easily then as they are now so travel times were longer and access to resources (such as water) was harder to come by for many people making life difficult especially since much of what we take for granted today wasn't available then either! However despite these challenges many residents persevered because they knew that if they worked together things could be made better! One such example occurred during this same period when Dutchman Cornelius Kieft settled down near present day Saginaw Countyline about two miles south east of where he would eventually build his famous brick factory called “the Kieft House” later known as Superior Steel Works which still stands today! This not only signaled beginning of development along what would become known as Kieft Boulevard but also changed many lives forever due to its impact on localnative boy John Fetterman who would go on To become one of America's most successful entrepreneurs followed by others such as Phil Anschutz who cofounded PepsiCo Incorporated
Novi was founded in 1834 by Elisha Jewett and John Stephenson. The town's first post office was established in 1835. It became a village in 1881, and then a city in 1903. In 1967, Novi merged with neighboring Oakland Township to form the current city of Novi.
