It is a small town with a population density of only 2 people per square mile (0.8 inhabitants per square kilometer). Novi's economy is based on agriculture, tourism, and local manufacturing. The first settler in what would become Novi was John Doak who arrived in 1836. Doak had made the trip from Detroit to explore what was then considered the new world and found land that he named "Doak's Landing". He built a cabin and started farming his land which would later be renamed "Novi". In 1839, George Sutherlin came to Novi from Grand Rapids with his family to start a grocery store called "Sutherlin's Grocery & Provision Store". After one year, Sutherlin sold his business to Amos Kendall for $10,000 cash. Kendall founded the city of Houghton Heights on July 1st of that year which would eventually become Decatur Township. In 1851, Enos Chappell set up shop in what is now known as Chappell’s Ford across from present day Route 11 near where he operated his farm until 1860 when he moved away because of increased taxes levied by the government for having an inn/brothel on his property; this prompted Chappell’s son-in-law Charles Morse (1824-1913) to open up a general store three miles east of town on US Highway 11E beginning in 1865 under the name “Morse’s Store & Agricultural Emporium” before moving it back westward across US Highway 11 into present day Novi Township where it remains today as “Morse’s General Store & Farms Inc." In 1870 Charles Morse bought out Enos Chappell for $40000 dollars making him one of most powerful men in early Novi Township history due both to his ownership stake as well as being able to bring much needed infrastructure such as water systems and more importantly social services like education and firewood into town during these difficult times following prohibition laws passed by Congress in 1919 which outlawed alcohol nationwide within our borders

The Novi area was first settled in 1812 by fur traders who called themselves the "Noviemen". The first post office in Novi was established in 1823. From 1834 to 1840, Novi was part of Huron County. It became part of Mackinac County when that county was created from portions of neighboring Kalamazoo and Wayne counties on February 3, 1840. The immediate predecessor to current-day Novi Township (the town has since been disbanded) was "Novoemeen" or Newmen's Landing on the Rouge River about 12 miles NW of present-day Decatur Township on what is now Forest Highway 10 between Ottawa and Sault Ste Marie also served as a trading post during this time period with goods coming upriver via an overland route as well as wagon road downriver from Detroit to Fort Gratiot which lay at the mouth of Lake Huron opposite today's Novi village limits). In 1824 Augustus Briggs founded a Methodist church here after coming across religious refugees fleeing persecution back home in Ohio while traveling through Canada on their way to preach missions to other parts of North America; he named his new settlement after himself (Briggs Village), one year before his native land became United States territory following its independence from Great Britain (an event which occurred primarily due to General Anthony Wayne's military victory over British forces at Yorktown)). It should be noted that Briggs did not actually move permanently until 1830 - just prior to his then newly founded community becoming known as Novi proper - so whatever title may have been given originally cannot definitively be considered correct history! That same year saw another early settler arrive at Noemi Point near present day White Sands Lake – Jonas Noyes – who interned with Detroit mercantile firm Heublein & Company along with others recruited specifically for such service under President James Kahl’s Executive Order No 1 issued November 15,1863 calling for all Americans “to engage immediately in construction work upon public works requiring their services” including but not limited to those engaged “in building canals, ditches or roads” across any new territory acquired thereby). Upon being discharged from duty there against Contractor’s Instructions he returned home rejoining his family hereabouts where they remained until 1889 when he sold them interest in their holdings back east reaching finally settling permanently herein some 25 years later! Of note: Many immigrants arriving during this era were either unskilled laborers or skilled artisans necessary for many otherwise heavy industry endeavors developing rapidly across late 19th century USA largely despite ubiquitous prejudice against such arrivals generally stemming from societal beliefs regarding intelligence levels amongst certain groups rather than anything intrinsic thereto; see Wikipedia article on American Culture during the Gilded Age.) This initial nucleus growth continued unabated through ensuing decades characterized by waves OF newcomers increasingly drawn increasingly towards opportunities available nearer riverine communities located inland leading eventually culminating approximately within present day Decatur Township where many subsequent dwellings were constructed (e.g., White Sands Lake Plantation built circa1900 thru 1915), Cahaba Heights neighborhood formed circa1920 thru 1925 following purchase thereof by local businessman Adolph Jaffe formerly operating a saltworks adjacent thereto), Harmony Hills neighborhood forming circa1930 thru 1935 following purchased thence bylocal banker Hiram Wehner having arrived here earlier!) thus continuing into recent times representatively reflecting today’s boundaries even though most residences herein were constructed subsequent thereto...Although no formal annexation status has ever been attained [due] solely theretoogenerally speaking little real change exteriorly occurs… much more introspective processes take place internally often resulting unexpectedly various positive changes resultant herein***
