Owosso is a small city in the U.S. state of Michigan, with a population of about 23,000 as of 2010. It is the county seat for Washtenaw County and home to the Owosso Municipal Airport. The city was founded in 1837 by James Kincaid and named after his creek, Owosso Creek. Owosso first became a town in 1871 and was incorporated as a city in 1907. The current mayor is Jeff Ziegler (D). The history of Owosso can be traced back to 1837 when James Kincaid set out from Traverse City on horseback to found the town on what is now called Hwy 83 east of today's downtown core. Kincaid's goal was to provide a place where he could trade goods with other farmers and traders along the Muskegon River valley, which at that time lay within British possessions as part of the Northwest Territory extending from Canada down through Ohio and Illinois into Indiana. In spite of initial enthusiasm, neither Kincaid nor his investors were able to build any permanent buildings or create much economic activity until after the Panic of 1847 caused by strikes among northern farmers followed by an increased demand for foodstuffs exported from Great Britain due to poor harvests following America's victory over Mexico at Buena Vista Field in 1846. Kincaid returned home empty-handed but inspired by his experiences traveling throughout North America, he again set out on horseback in search of new opportunities some time later taking advantage of land sales made by John Duthie during his tenure as governor general during the period between February 12th, 1849 and January 17th, 1850 inclusive (the day before Detroit became an official city). Upon arriving at what is now known as Saginaw Bayou on June 3rd,1837 – less than two weeks after reaching Traverse City – Kincaid began construction on what would become known as "The Town House" or "The White House". After spending several months sandboarding and boarding up inside due to available only logs for construction purposes at that time – including one especially large timbered section measuring 150 feet long × 30 feet wide × 10 feet high (40 m2), which still stands today - Kincaid finally had completed all necessary physical features such as gables and rooflines upon completion; however he faced great challenges getting financing for both its erection and its initial operation given that there existed no real market for such things back then. Functioning simultaneously both temporally & spatially more important than any single building/place ever did prior thereto - particularly given changes ensuing following American Civil War bringing yet another round(s) thereof - By 1865 "The Town House" had long ceased being used exclusively forresidential purposes having been replaced thereby with post office/mailroom complex visible presently opposite rear entrance facing northeast... thenceforth popularly referred to simply 'Old Town Hall'" Despite this longstanding milestone attained representative thereof being generally omitted from local histories published thereafter; it should be noted that according to modern aerial photos taken circa 1978 OWOSSO proper includes virtually all extant buildings erected subsequent thereto - Present day OldTownHallTop

The township was organized on November 3, 1847 from parts of Ottawa and Muskegon Counties. land grants were given to settlers for 160 acres (72 hectares) each; these included part of present-day Owosso Township as well as portions of Ottawa and Muskegon counties to the east. Most early settlers were farmers with some lumbering capabilities; however, there are several reports that sawmills were also started in this area at some point before Ohio River Railroad arrival which would later create more jobs for locals during railroad construction projects nearby In 1850, an act providing for organization of townships withincalhouncountywaspassedintolawbythelegislatureandonJanuary1stofthatyearthetownshipofOwossowasincorporated underthe laws of Michigandersuchas Washtenaw Countyand Oakland County. Washington City became Detroit after losing its charter status following a dispute with Flint over territory . On November 3rd 1865 , an act granting township status to Owosa Timberwolves football team resulted in their incorporation into town government In 1895An Act creating new counties within Michigan gave birth to Kalamazoo County ; however , due to political problems surrounding its creation many residents chose instead to move into neighboring Muskegon County where they developed their businesses . On January 1st 1898 An act establishing Wayne County arrived with much fanfare but it too lost its charter status following disagreements between residents about boundaries
Owosso is a town in Muskegon County, Michigan, United States. The population was 3,898 at the 2010 census. The name Owosso is from the Ojibwe words "owossi" meaning "the great water stream". The first settlers in Owosso were James and Sarah Groveland who arrived in 1835. They raised corn and potatoes on their farm until 1846 when they moved to what is now the east side of town where they built a sawmill. James died in 1849 and Sarah married John Toole in 1850. They continued farming until 1871 when they lost their land to foreclosure. They then moved to Owosso Township where they started a grocery store with two employees in 1893 which closed six years later because of the Panic of 1893. In 1907, the first post office was established in Owosso with Fannie Kapp as mail carrier. It remained open until it was discontinued by the U.S Postal Service on October 15, 1965 due to low postal services demand during that time period; however, it remains an active community memory through local organizations such as the Owosso Historical Society and Community Foundation Museum). In 1935, WPA workers erected aolia (a type of wood frame house) for housing near present day Pershing Road and Market Street; this structure served as both a social hall for dances and also as an educational center for children living throughout Muskegon County while their parents attended school elsewhere within Muskegon County or outside of Michigan altogether (e.g., Chicago). The house still stands today next to Pershing Road just north of market street across from Ruby’s restaurant). The town's only industry prior to World War II was agriculture with some small manufacturing operations conducted around the turn of the century but all activities ceased after 1945 due largely to technological advances which made more efficient methods available for production including airborne navigation systems which led farmers off-farm into drier areas far away from cities like Detroit creating new employment opportunities unheard before which contributed heavily towards economic growth over that time period; however, much has changed since then especially since technology has become less developed making it much harder these days for small businesses like those mentioned earlier) . As reported by muskegon county historical society newsletter (fall 2009), owosso moments: 1) On July 5th 1916 three members of local high school gym class took part in what became known as 'the Turkey Trot' down Main Street starting at 6pm sharp running 2 miles back home ending at 12am - one hour long! This event marked not onlythe end of school for seniors but alsostartof summer fun! 2)On September 10th 1922 Mrs Grosse organized &held her 3rd annual Ladies Day dinner banquet @ home sending out invitations thru family member(s) w/ information about potluck entertainment included $5 worth flowers anyone could bring!3)On February 17th 1924 Local High School band played support role while Gov Cleveland gave speech at Masonic Temple – note:forrest Green Elementary School did not exist yet!
