The two men continued to trade coffee until 1836 when Jones died without leaving any heirs. His widow, Annis JepsenJones, continued to trade coffee until her death in 1865. In 1868, the first Englishman to settle in Pontiac arrived by ship and named it "Queen's Coffee House" after his favorite drink - Queen Anne's tea.

The first automobile dealership in America was opened here by Adolphus Fenton with two cars – an Ford Model T and an American car – on October 15, 1909 On November 3rd 1907, Hardship Land Company bought 640 acres (248 hectares) just east of town from Augustus Eaton for $27,500 ($ as of 2019). This land would be used for future industrial development including both production of aircraft parts during World War II and more recently homebuilding around the current Park Drive area that includes most of the downtown business district including many big box stores such as Sears Roebuck & Co., JCPenney Co., Kohl’s Department Stores Inc., Macy’s Inc., Duncan Hines Restaurants Incorporated - now called Just Do It! -and several smaller stores before being re-purposed for housing after Interstate 94 construction stopped moving traffic away from downtown starting in the early 2000s . The original plan was to build 1 million homes over 10 years but this never happened due to opposition from local elected officials who felt that too much growth would impact their businesses directly or indirectly . In fact since very few people actually live within walking distance of any major shopping center these days most people consider Pontiac their "town" rather than their "city". This has led some residents to refer to themselves simply as "Pontiacans" even though they are well aware that they have no say in how their town develops or how much money anyone else gets out of it .
