The history of the Port Huron Air Force Station began in 1941 when the United States Army Reserve Command established an airfield at Grand Haven, Michigan. The original airfield was used for training pilots and bombers during World War II. It was later enlarged to include a squadron of Boeing B-29 bombers. In 1948, the United States Air Force transferred the Grand Haven Airport to the Michigan Air National Guard and activated it as Port Huron AFB. The Base became a major strategic bomber station during the Cold War era, with over 1,500 aircraft facility in total. In 1994, the Air National Guard base closed and its assets were merged into nearby Wurtsboro AFB. However, due to low funding levels at Wurtsboro AFB, Port Huron AFB remains active as a tactical missile site and fighter training area today.

Port Huron, Michigan is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the county seat of Kalamazoo County. The population was 231,859 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Detroit metropolitan area. The first permanent European settlement in what is now Port Huron was by French fur traders in 1796, from Québec City on the Canadian side of Lake Superior. A Scottish sailor named John Macdonald landed on Saginaw Bay in 1817 and founded Macdonaldtown on land that he had been given by General Harrison Gray Otis (1802-1875). In 1826, Commodore George Rogers Clark's forces burned Fort Mackinac after its commander refused to surrender his cannons to the United States navy when US troops arrived at Mackinac Island; this event became known as "the Battle of Fort Mackinac". Although Native Americans had inhabited what is nowPort Huron for many centuries, it wasn't until 1699 that French explorer Jean Nicolet discovered and named it Niaux after his ship "Nieuport" which he sailed into Lake Superior under command of Samuel de Champlain. Port Huron, Michigan is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the seat of Marquette County. The population was 712 at the 2010 census, down from 855 at the 2000 census. It is one of four cities in Marquette County and, with its sister city, Oshawa, forms the metropolitan area known as Midland which had a population of 905,824 as of 2016.[1] The first European sighting of what would become Port Huron was by Englishman James Cook on his second voyage around Asia in 1768-1769; Cook's ship Discovery made landfall there on September 11th and 12th[2]. At that time it was an unincorporated part of Wabash County but after 1807 became a part of Wayne County when it was organized. The town site sat on the current site of downtown Port Huron until 1831 when it moved to its present location south of Macomb Boulevard between State Street and Ionia Avenue. In 1832 French Canadian Pierre-Eugène LaFontaine founded la Ville de Québec (QUEBEC) here on land he had bought from Cadillac Creek natives[3][4]. In 1840 US Congressman John C McLeod started construction on what would become Michigan's first Territorial Capitol,[5][6] also called "the Fort Dearborn School" because McLeod himself taught there from 1841 until his death in 1862[7]. After being burned down by a group OF Native Americans during the Battle Of Horseshoe Bend in 1865, QUEBEC rebuilt itself over an extended period including both exterior walls and interior towers up to 350 feet (100 m) high[8][9], becoming America's first Indian-owned whitecity[10][11]. A new courthouse built between 1888 and 1890 replaced QUEBEC's original building which had been destroyed by fire two years earlier[12]; today's Courthouse Annex is also credited with being America's first indoor mall[13] In 1951 Port Huron became home to Chrysler Corporation’s North American Research Center for Automotive Research [14] before moving back out into business district in 1957 as Chrysler Building International Inc., later renamed DaimlerChrysler AG following merger with Mercedes Benz USA Incorporated in 1978. During World War II millions dollars were invested here at LR&D for development work leading to production starts at nearby San Diego Proving Ground; these days much ATK research takes place at DRDO’s Trivandrum campus adjoining Naval Facilities Engineering Command’s Mobile Arsenal Facility(MAF) – responsible for developing Deptt Navy missiles like Tomahawk cruise missiles etc.. One major false attribution given about this complex during those wars era could be this – while many developments took place within R&D & MAF buildings during those years–no weapons were actually ever developed or manufactured at PortsHuron Laboratory!… So how did such Brownshirts get their hands on so many nuclear warheads???!!?!
The town of Port Huron, Michigan was founded in 1837 by John C. Frémont and named for the port on the Rouge River where he had served as a military officer during the Mexican-American War. The town grew rapidly due to its location at the mouth of the Huron River, which made it an important commercial center. By 1851, Port Huron had a population of over 2,000 people and was considered one of Michigan's "prime towns." In 1865, following the American Civil War, Port Huron became part of the new United States because of its importance as a transportation hub. The city went through rapid growth during Reconstruction Period in America and reached its peak in 1888 when it had a population of over 12,000 people. After World War II,Port Huron experienced major decline due to decay in industry and loss of jobs in manufacturing. However, recent efforts have been made to revive the city by redeveloping some portions thereof into high-rise apartments and other housing uses.
