Rochester Hills is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the county seat of Washtenaw County. The population was 61,594 at the 2010 census, making it the 8th most populous city in Michigan and 17th most populous in Wayne County. A small community formed near present day Route 22 northeast of downtown Rochester while other settlers established villages near current day routes 122/M-24/MI 467 (now I-94) south of downtown Battle Creek and M-13 east of town center Ann Arbor . By 1823 much acreage had been surveyed for development including what is now downtown Rochester with early efforts led by Colonel John Pemberton . In 1827 Pemberton founded Mackinac Island Company with capital raised from land sales conducted at Isle Royale where he had built Fort Gratiot about year earlier; subsequent purchases included nearly all Chippewa Valley country lying between Ottawa River watershed on one side and Lakes Huron & Superior on another In 1830 Drury sold his interest in Mackinac Island Company to United States Government for $10 million dollars which createdrocky Harbor Bayou park today known as Mackinac Island Park across from Dormitory 2 at US Military Academy Ft Michilimackinac campus

Rochester Hills is a census-designated place (CDP) in Mid Michigan, United States. The population was 5,813 at the 2010 census. The Rochester Hills CDP is bordered by Grand River to the south, Ottawa County to the west and north, and South Huron County to the east. The area that would become Rochester Hills was first settled by German immigrants in 1836. The community of Westphalia was founded in 1838 and soon became a center for industry and commerce. In 1850, the town of East Lansing merged with Rochester Hills. By 1870, all of what would become Rochester Hills had been incorporated as a village. In 1905, an act authorizingthe creation of a new township within Ottawa Countywas passed by the state legislature. The name for this new township - "Rochester" - suggested itself to local authorities because it was similar to another town in Ontario County - "Westphalia". On July 1, 1907, Rochester Township began operations under this new name. One of the earliest businesses established in Rochester was Dyersmith's Furniture Store which opened its doors on North Avenue in 1915. This store played an important role in shaping the earlyhood culture of Rochester and continues to be one of its most popular tourist attractions today. Other early businesses such as Brown & Sons grocery store opened shortly thereafter including becoming one of only two candlestick stores open during prohibition Era America . In 1951 Chilton Automotive Manufacturing Co., Inc., started production at their plant on Saginaw Street North which remains an active manufacturing center today with over 150 employees producing various vehicles including pickups and SUVs . Since then many other companies have located here including Wixom-based Covidien HealthCare System who has their headquarters here since 2001; as well as Menlo Park-based Intel Corporation who moved their corporate headquarters from Santa Clara Valley before being headquartered here since 2005; former Chrysler Group Headquarters until they moved back to Detroit after leaving bankruptcy; Ford Motor Company until they transitioned into Light Duty Vehicles Business Unit spinoff called Lincoln ; KPMG LLP until they relocated out office building into their current location adjacent Fitzgerald High School; American Tool Works which closed up shop when Production stopped due Chapter 11 Bankruptcy filed against them but reopened some time later following restructuring done by receivership process . Also present during this time were several landmark buildings like Mayo Clinic Building now home to student housing complex University Place One also built around these times such as Masonic Temple (now demolished) which served as Hospitality Annex while Mayo Clinic continued providing care services out side campus ; Adventist Church (now Dempster Catholic Church) built circa 1925 still stands serving residents across denominations although few people attend services currently due lack of space inside church sanctuary ; First National Bank Building serving mostly locals until 1978 when it went national and became part of JB Hunt Financial Services LLC renamed JBHU upon acquisition by John Hancock Financial Services plc.; Ford Dearborn Lincoln line products produced at facility known locally simply as Dearborn City Plant until truck production ended there in 1996 followed by small scale product productions going on at plant throughout 2000s known collectively as Dearborn Truck Plant however all production ceased somewhere between 2006-2010 due changing economic conditions; Thornburg Farms produce eggs here starting around 1890s although business has greatly diminished recent yearsdue largely to shriveling egg production capacity throughout Midwest USA
