Rochester Hills is a city in the northwestern portion of Michigan, United States. The population was 54,598 at the 2010 census. It lies on the border of four counties: Oakland County to the west, Macomb County to the north, Wayne County to the east and Trumbull County to the south. The city is located in Livingston Township and is bordered by Rochester Hills Boulevard on its east side and Uptown Road on its west side. Interstate 75 passes through Rochester Hills, linking it with Lansing and other nearby cities. The city has a mass transit system called Monroe-Wayne Regional Transit which provides service between downtown Rochester Hills and various neighborhoods within the City of Detroit metropolitan area. Rochester Hills was founded in 1884 as a small community near what is now University Park Avenue and Seven Mile Road. At that time, it was part of Washtenaw Township. In 1896, it became part of Oakland County when that county was formed from parts of MIchigan's previous two counties: Upper Peninsula (now Muskegon Heights) and Huron (now Ottawa). In 1937, when Oakland County merged into Macomb County, Rochester Hills joined that county as well. In 1965, when Macomb County merged into Wayne County, Rochester Hills reverted back to its original name of Washtenaw Township; however, it still remains an unincorporated community within Wayne County (though technically part of Rochesterville). The population growth associated with suburban development in those days led to many people moving out into villages like Plymouth or Southfield; however, most residents now call themselves "City residents" or simply "Regional residents". There have been several attempts over the years by state legislators to annex portions of eastern Macomb or western Wayne Counties so as to create a larger metropolitan area for all southeastern Michigan; however these proposals have always faced opposition from both those counties' leaders as well as local officials in each respective municipality who fear loss of control over their own jurisdictions should such an annexation be approved by either body.

Rochester Hills is a city in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The population was 34,661 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest city in Michigan and has the lowest population density of any municipality in the state. It is also one of the poorest cities in Michigan with median household income only $38,500. The first permanent settler in what would become Rochester Hills was Jacob Howland who arrived during 1816. He founded a log cabin on land that now includes much of downtown Rochester. By 1827, Howland had erected a larger frame house which he named "Howland's Grove". In 1830, another pioneer, George Stephenson, came to live and work near where he later built his steamboat company's factory on Saginaw Bayou. Stephenson donated land for a public school which opened in 1831-32 and was soon renamed "Rochester High School" after himself and other local personalities including then- Mayor John Daley (later Chicago Mayor) and Seneca Chief Cornick (a member of Detroit’s first City Council). John Fonda played football for Rochesters High School from 1954 until 1957 when he transferred to Calvin College Preparatory School because his high school refused to let him play for their varsity team because they did not have enough players available to field an all-star team. After playing two years at Calvin College Preparatory School as a player/coach, Fonda transferred again to Rochester Institute of Technology where he played quarterback for Delta Tau Delta fraternity while attending college; this led directly to his career as an actor starting out with parts in television series like "The Twilight Zone" and "M*A*S*H". When Fonda starred as Chucky on Child's Play from 1990 until its release in 2006, few people knew that prior to that role he had also played small roles in several short films including two versions of Ghostbusters (1984 & 1985), both with Rob Reiner as producer/director/screenwriter; one version featuring Don Cheadle as agent Janitorial Services head Peter Venkman while another features Everett True as construction worker Walter Brennan - both performances were produced by former child star Timothy Hutton who reprised the role successfully for three seasons beginning 2008–2009 before going into full retirement stage production acting until his death from pancreatic cancer on October 12th 2009 aged 82 years old having appeared regularly since 1984 upon returning from hospice care following a long battle against pancreatic cancer).
