In 1839, RoyalOak erected its first municipal building at Fourth Street and Woodward Avenue (now Midtown Drive). That same year saw the opening of its first store - George Washington & Company - which became one ofMI's largest retailers. By 1860, RoyalOak had reached its peak economic development with over 100 businesses employing over 1,500 people. However, by 1865 political unrest had spread throughout much of America due to issues such as slavery and Reconstruction; this led toa significant decline in business activity throughout RoyalOak until 1870 when it finally regained some level of prosperity thanks to importation from abroad and increased manufacturing output within town limits). After years during which there was little change taking place within Municipal Order No 2 (RO), residents petitioned RO officials to change this status quo by initiating changes known collectively as The Great Firestorming Campaign (1871-1872). These patrols helped bring order back into Municipality after several months during which property values plummeteddue ToTheGreatFirestormingCampaign (). This event has been called "the turning point" for RO because it signaled that authorities could take measures other than using violenceagainstcitizenswhowereunwillingto complywithnewlawsand regulations.(Curtis et al., 2005) Today remnants from earlier historical periods can still be seen throughout town including boarded up warehouses dating back to 1800s that are now home to various stores,, restaurants,, banks,,,, etc... The business closed down because of financial problems.
