The Marine Corps has been present in Michigan since the early 1800s. The first Marines were assigned to Fort Michilimackinac in 1801. In 1903, Michigan became a state and the Marine Corps was established as an agency of the state government. As part of the Department of Defense, the Marine Corps played a critical role in World War II and did not hesitate to deploy with full gear and be ready for any contingency. Since then, Marines have remained a vital part of our defense system and are often called upon to help support local police departments or provide security for events such as Super Bowls or cultural festivals. Throughout their history, Marines have always been supportive members of our community and have contributed significantly to our culture and economy. Today, there are over 1,500 Marines stationed in Michigan spread throughout twelve counties including Saginaw County. They play an important role in ensuring that we are prepared for any potential crisis or emergency that may occur on our behalf – whether it’s supporting law enforcement during protests or providing essential security at events like sporting contests. In addition to their duties within our military community, Marines also serve as ambassadors of peace through their participation in numerous voluntary programs such as giving backpacks to children living with poverty or visiting hospitals around the world while wearing donated uniforms.

Saginaw is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the county seat of Saginaw County. The population was 97,869 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Detroit metropolitan area. The first settler in what is now Saginaw was John Lillie, who arrived in 1795 and named it after his native land Variant: Shinagawa, Japan. He built a log cabin on the bank of the River Rouge near present-day Midland Park Boulevard and traded with Native Americans for goods such as maize and clothing. In 1821, James Kelleher settled in what is now Saginaw Township, adjacent to what is today Midland Park Boulevard, and began trading with Indians for goods such as horses, corn, beads and firearms. By 1830 he had erected a small frame house on Federal Street which became known as "The Old Fort". In 1835, Anna Mapes sold her interest in The Old Fort to Augustus Kilgore for $1 million dollars which made him one of the first white men to purchase land east of Detroit from local Native Americans at that time. As part of his purchase agreement Kilgore promised not to sell any more land east of Detroit until all reservations were abolished within 10 years - an event that ultimately never happened due to Indian resistance). With this new tract of land Kilgore laid out a town square on Wabash Avenue between Cass Avenue (now Woodward Avenue) and State Road 488 (now Grand Valley Parkway), naming it after himself - Saginaw Township or "Kilgore's Town". On November 3rd, 1837 – just two months before General Andrew Jackson's Emancipation Proclamation – Kilgore's Town voted to secede from Michigan Territory because they did not agree with Jackson's policies regarding slavery. This act set off a six-year civil war between pro-slavery settlers who called themselves "Kilgores" and anti-slavery settlers who called themselves "Greshamians". The conflict ended with the Battle of Grosse Pointe over control of Harriman Island - although there were also several smaller skirmishes throughout much of Michigan Territory during this time period related to slave trade operations conducted by both sides). Following the end of World War II many veterans returned home from WWII through various means including amnesty programs offered by President Truman; however some Veterans chose instead to settle down within their own communities rather than return home where they might have been immediately drafted into military service again during peacetime periods.(Although some GI’s did return home following discharge from US Forces Korea) Over 50% percent (around 6600 individuals)of Saginaw’s population were citizens or ethnic Germans when it lost its status as a village according to 2000 Census data However since 2000 Census data does not reflect listings corresponding back prior thereto most accurate estimates range closer towards 30% ABV due largelyTo changes affecting single family housing developments situated contiguous along arterial streets regularly subjectedto high levels(both pedestrian & vehicular)occupancy resultingin difficultiesand confrontationsbetween residents& Developers over allotment sizes & conditions thereof). In 1837, the Saginaw people founded what is now known as Saginaw County. The town of Saginaw was founded in 1838 on the site of present day Midland City. In 1845, Michigan became a U.S. state and Saginaw became its capital city. The city prospered until the late 1800s when it began to decline due to economic reasons. However, since 2000, Saginaw has seen an increase in tourism and development that has preserved much of its historic architecture and infrastructure
In 1807, Saginaw was the site of a treaty between the United States and Great Britain. The treaty ended the War of 1812.
