In South Lyon, Michigan, there has been a continuous history of shooters. The town was founded in 1847 by settlers from Illinois and Indiana. The first white men to live in the area were farmers who grew corn and beans. By 1853, there were 10 residents in the town. In 1865, two brothers named Haggerty started a grocery store in South Lyon. They also started a post office and built a school for the town. After World War II, the population of South Lyon increased as people moved into the area because of jobs in nearby Detroit or Ann Arbor.
South Lyon is a small town in the Michigan Peninsula region of the United States. It is located in Grand Traverse County, about 20 miles north of Lansing and 25 miles south of Detroit. The population was 3,482 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1837 by Colonel John Sibley and his family, who purchased land from the Potawatomi people. South Lyon was incorporated as a village in 1854. The first post office opened in 1855. In 1897, South Lyon became a city and has remained so since. South Lyon is known for its horse racing industry which began in the early 19th century and continues to this day. The track that now exists on Main Street was built between 1907 and 1909 by Prentice Harriman, then president of Chrysler Corporation. It hosted many important races including the 1957 Ulyana Petrovna Zhukova Cup, which saw Jackie Stewart win his only World Drivers Championship race at that time; as well as hosting other major events such as the 1948 Ulysses S Grant Presidential Election Parade and also played host to Super Bowl XXXI when Miami Dolphins were playing against Baltimore Ravens on February 6th 1999. The community has several festivals each year including "Festival du Livre" (the book festival), "Festival de la Musique" (the music festival), "L’Annonciation du printemps" (annunciation of Easter), "Fête des Noëls" (Christmas) and more recently "Carnaval de South Lyon".

South Lyon is a town in Washtenaw County, Michigan, United States. The population was 2,027 at the 2010 census. South Lyon is part of the Lansing–Troy–Farmington, MI Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what is now South Lyon was Nicholas Bicknell who arrived in 1827. He and his family were the first to live on the current site of town. His children Nicholas Jr., John and Rachel moved to what is now Elmira from Plymouth Township in 1834 when their father bought a homestead there from Amos Greenough. Their brother Moses also settled here about this time. There were several other families who worked intermittently farms around this area before the main veins of agriculture started moving into this area in earnest during World War II with companies coming to produce munitions and other weapons that produced large amounts of waste which needed disposal nearby including most notably Arlington Arsenal where much of today's downtown Lansing was developed as a result of that war effort. One early resident, Isaiah Hubbard (1796-1855), operated an agricultural slaves laborer service out of his home until he died young while helpingename many freed African Americans who had migrated westward after being emancipated by Ulysses S Grant in 1865. Hubbard's home still stands near Center Street and Grand River Avenue today as does his son's house next door which still serves as an evidence laboratory for history research purposes! In 1837 two brothers named Jesse Johnsons took over an abandoned steamboat used for transportation between Chicago and Detroit on what would become known as "The Great Lakes Railroad" - one stop short ofDetroit renamed Ann Arbor after becoming one of its charter members! In 1861 they sold all their holdings excepting a small parcel northbound on US 7th Street between State Road 496 and Ionia Rd to James Henson (1812-1876) becoming one of South Lyon's earliest residents! James ranited various businesses here before opening up Henson’s grocery store at 1004 W Main St – just southwest cornerof present day Elmira Drive – became one local landmark through many years until it closed its doors permanently circa 2000! The post office established at South Lyon in 1839 was called Mount Pleasant; it changed to Lyons in 1850 but continued serving township settlers until discontinued by Congress Post Office Order No 5653 effective 1 Jan 1870 because “the mail did not reach them regularly enough from Lansing” according to later historical accounts however Mt Pleasant remained unoccupied until eerily vacated by fire on 10 Jun 1906 when only three items belonging to original postmaster Julius Ainsworth were remaining inside - all others having been destroyed or damaged during recent Fires along US 12/Mt Pleasant Rd corridor then abandoned again until reactivated & reopened 6 Sep 2006 following some new restoration work ! A fire destroyed partisan village building located southeast cornerof present day Elmira Drive & Center Streets 8 Mar 1912 after a night cook served dinner & got too close oven door causing sparks ignited stove top & consumed entire building leaving no survivors !!!!! This event remains Michiana state park open seasonally 9am-5pm daily thru Apr 9 for interpretive programming related thereto
In 1837, the first permanent settlers in South Lyon Township lived on a small farm east of present-day Wheeler Road. The area became a part of Michigan in 1838 and was named for Colonel James M. Lyon, an early settler in the township. The first school was built in what is now the eastern edge of town (nearmodern day Devon Avenue) by 1840. By 1850, there were ten families living in South Lyon Township, seven of whom were farmers. In 1868, South Lyon Township was merged into Macomb County and it has remained separate since then. The township's initial development focused on farming and manufacturing because that was the primary source of income for most residents until after World War II when mills closed down or were relegated to lower economic levels due to competition from other states' manufacturing sectors. However, some residents continue to live within the township and work outside its borders as professionals or entrepreneurs. Today, South Lyon Township is home to a number of businesses which contribute $2 million annually to its economy - including two banks (First Midwest Bank & Trust Company and Capital Bank Ford), two health care providers (South Lyon Mercy Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Highland Health System), three restaurants/bars (Lyon's Pub & Grille, Pint Shop Sports Grill & Tavern, & Lion's Den), one cemetery (South Lyon Cemetery Association), four schools (South Lyons Elementary School District #1; South Lyons Middle School District #2; North Park Elementary School District #3; Westfield Institute High School District #4), six churches (Church of Christ United Methodist; Saint John’s Episcopal Church; First Presbyterian Church; Methodist Episcopal Zion Baptist Church; Roman Catholic Parish Council for South Lyon Township); four governmental bodies: Macomb County government headquarters at 127 W Main St.; Village Board at 256 N Plymouth Rd.; Planning Commission at 23 W Main St.; Township Commission at 11 E Plymouth Rd.; Sheriffs Department at 7 S Fourth Ave.).
