There has been coffee production in Southfield, Michigan for over a century. The first coffee beans were ground and roasted by Dutch settlers in the 1800s. In 1916, Southfield's first grocery store, the George H. Smith Store, began selling coffee. Local roasting companies continued to be established throughout the 1920s and 1930s. By the 1940s, Southfield had become one of the most important caffeine-producing communities in Michigan. The community produced more than 4 million cups of ground coffee per year by 1950.
Southfield is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, located on the border of Lake Michigan and Ottawa County. The population was 37,658 at the 2010 census, making it the tenth-largest city in Michigan and the second-most populous city in Wayne County after Detroit. It is part of the Detroit metropolitan area. The land that now makes up Southfield was first settled by French colonists as Fort St Clair on what is now Saginaw River Boulevard in 1795. It became a village named Notre Dame de la Prairie in 1807 when a group of English Catholic missionaries arrived to help start an American fur trade hereabouts. In 1814, Southfield was incorporated as a town and its name changed to Southfield Township because so much of what we know about today’s township came about during this time period as it grew up around Fort Dearborn (now Belle Isle). In 1835, United States General WinFIELD Scott decided to build a military post called “Fort Dearborn” on Belle Isle for his own use – something which had never been done before or since then! The post served as headquarters for several years until it was abandoned in 1839 due to health concerns from nearby settlers associated with malaria fever caused by Aedes albopictus mosquitoes who infested Dearborn Harbor at that time! In 1840, following successful campaigns against Native Americans led by Major General John Custer and Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer – both natives of Canada – some local citizens petitioned Congress to create what would become known as Fordland Township within Dearborn Township; this request resulted in their success! This new township contained all but one block of land north of Grandview Avenue; this block became revertible back into Fordland Township upon creation of MetroDetroit Area through legislation approved by Congress on December 1, 1984! Southfield has experienced rapid growth throughout its history; reaching its current size only 12 years ago! Today’s downtown core built specifically for business purposes began growing rapidly following incorporation while other blocks such as North Park Square and Midtown have seen more sporadic development over time (including Farmer Bob’s Tavernwhich closed down recently)!

In 2006, Southfield was ranked as one of "America's 10 Most livable cities" by Forbes magazine. In 2008, it also received recognition from both MSN/CNN Money Magazine and Inc. Magazine as one of America’s “25 Great Places for Working parents” based on a study released by Families USA magazine; the study found that single mothers with children under 6 years old make up 25% of all workers in those areas but are responsible for 50% of family income here; while married women make up 55% of workers here but account for only 35% outOf family income – this percentage will continue to grow over time!
In 1837, a group of settlers from Lebanon County (now part of Michigan) arrived at the current site of Southfield. The township was organized on November 3, 1837, and named for General John S. Sherman. By 1870, the population had increased to 1,362 and the township had a schoolhouse and three churches. On October 13, 1871, Southfield became an incorporated village after officials decided that it would be more efficient to manage its own affairs than having it governed by a rural municipality. In 1912, Southfield annexed what is now Muskegon Heights Township.
