Southfield, Michigan is home to two of the most iconic small batch coffee companies in the world- Peet's Coffee and Dutch Bros. The first Southfield location was a small shop on Wacker Drive that was opened by Dutch Bros.' founder, John Doerfler. Doerfler started the business in 1963 as a single cup coffee shop and soon began selling larger quantities of coffee beans to local grocery stores. In 1969, Peet's Coffee opened its first store in Southfield and quickly became known for their high quality beans and delicious products. Today, Peet's Coffee has over 100 locations around the world and continues to grow with new flavors, drinks and products. The Dutch Bros.' story is also extremely unique. Starting out as a small family-owned grocery store in Southfield, the company grew rapidly over time until it eventually split into two businesses- Dutch Bros.' Vintage Coffee (now part of Starbucks) and Dutch Bros.' Fresh Brewers (now part of Dunkin' Donuts). Both businesses continued to sell their own unique brands of coffee until 1993 when they merged into one entity-Dutch Bros.-Peet's Coffee Inc.. This merger resulted in some biggest changes for both companies- Peet's Coffee began producing its own beans from start to finish instead of purchasing them from others, Dutch Bros.' fresh brewers became available nationwide without any additional purchase required, and finally Danish pastry chef Jens Jensen took charge of both brands as president/CEO. Today, all three brands continue to operate separately under different leadership but share a common goal: To provide customers with wonderful tasting coffee that reflects their individual personalities."

Southfield, Michigan is a city in Wayne County, Michigan, United States. The population was 27,047 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest city in Wayne County after Detroit. Southfield is the home of Ford Motor Company and other major companies. The city also has a large agricultural sector which includes dairy and pork production. Southfield was founded by Englishman John Leland in 1837 as a small community on the southeast side of what is now downtown Southfield. In 1838, he naming it after his native town of Stamford, England. The first post office was established in Southfield on July 14, 1838 with five residents. The first store in downtown Southfield opened on October 12th, 1840 with eight residents using it to buy goods from local farmers. By 1850, there were twenty residents living in downtown Southfield and one hundred fifty businesses had opened since John Leland's initial platting of what would become Southfield Township (later renamed Wayne County). In 1855 Leland donated land to createNorthwest Side Park which included present day Dearborn Street between Woodward Avenue and Griggs Road; this area became known as "Leland Heights" after him because so much of his land was given away for development hereabouts. In 1865 David Dudley purchased 1/2 mile (3 km) east of today's intersection of Woodward Avenue and Griggs Road from John Leland for $1 cash only - making Dudley one of the earliest developers within what would become south central Detroit suburbs such as Shelby Township and Palmer Township – building streets starting at Woodward Avenue while still farming land to support himself until 1893 when he sold most of his holdings to General Motors Co., creating what are now several blocks west of I-75 on the near north side of North Campus Drive between Eight Mile Road (now M-1 Freeway) and Farmington Hills Boulevard (now M-14 BUSINESS PARK). This site became home to GM's largest plant outside America before being razed following its bankruptcy filing in 1988 due largely to environmental concerns associated with then newly developed I-75 corridor just east or northeast thereof along today’s Corporate Woods Dr., off Saginaw Expressway across from Stryker Hospital & Clinic

The commercial center of Southfield is located on State Street between Third Avenue and Fourth Avenue near Huron River Park. The first permanent settler in what would become Southfield was James McDermott in 1814. He built a cabin on the banks of the river that later became known as McDermott Road, south of today's intersection of State Street and Gratiot Avenue. The township was organized on June 5, 1827, from part of Detroit Township. The city of Southfield was founded in 1833 by a group of farmers who wanted to make a new home for themselves on the north side of the river. The area that is now Southfield was mostly rural until the early 1800s, and there were no settlements other than small villages in the immediate area. However, with the arrival of boats carrying goods and passengers upriver, village growth began to occur as people started moving into what is now Southfield from nearby towns. The first settler in what is now Southfield was John Meeks, who arrived in 1835. By 1840, there were over 100 residents living in what is now Southfield. Southfield consistently grew between 1833 and 1840 due to its location on the north side of the River Styx – an important trade route linking Detroit with Canada – and its rich natural resources including lumber and coal. The first school in what is now Southfield opened in 1839, serving children from local farms and homes. By 1850, there were over 200 students attending schools within a mile of where they lived. In 1861, when Michigan became a state, Southwestern Michigan became part of it and with it came increased opportunities for economic development. With new railroad connections available throughout Michigan via land grantsand timber prizes offered by federal officials during this time period, businesses sprang up all around town ready to capitalize on these opportunities. In 1865-1866, construction began on one of North America’s largest roads – trunk road 3 (now I-696), which eventually connected Detroit with Buffalo via south Ontario County! This rapid growth led to increased traffic congestion on both sides of the river which required solution; engineers developed a plan known as “the Grand Trunk Road System” which would improve transportation by connecting smaller communities throughout Michigan through expressways like trunk road 3 so that trucks could be unloaded quickly at large ports or terminals near Detroit without going through downtown or being subject to delays caused by traffic congestion. Today many aspects associated with south suburban Detroit history are still visible today: such as neighborhoods such as Middlebury Heights/Forest Park/Lawn View etc., farmland that has been turned into housing developments such as Farmington Hills/West Bloomfield etc., shopping malls like Wayne Allyn & Dick's Sporting Goods etc., factories built during this time period like Fisher Body (now Fiat Chrysler) etc.,and more!
