The plane is named after the town's patron saint, Saint Martin of Tours. The airplane was donated by the owner of an aviation equipment dealership in Sturgis.
The town of Sturgis, Michigan is located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and has a population of over 7,000 people. The name “Sturgis” means “battle ground” in the Ojibwe language and was given to the community by Chief Black Hawk. The first store in town was built by Elisha Stevens in 1846. In 1868, the village had a population of 100 persons and it was designated as an incorporated municipality. By 1902, Sturgis had a population of 1,500 and it became an unincorporated village when its boundaries were changed. On July 26, 1907, the Village formed a mutual aid society with other villages in Lower Michigan under the name American Mutual Aid Society (AMAS). On May 16, 1912 AMAS organized a parade to celebrate Independence Day. That year also saw the first football game between Sturgis High School and Albion College. In 1916 local farmers offered their land for military training camp which later became World War I; this event is commemorated by Memorial Day Parade each year. From 1924 until 1951, Sturgis held its own annual fair which attracted tourists from all over America. During that time there were several hotels and restaurants in town which continue to function today including The Lodge at Lathrop & Palmer Place hotel which offers golf courses ethical lodging services to visitors during their stay; Ascot Inn restaurant serves award winning cuisine while maintaining its historic atmosphere; US-Canadian border crossing provides access to Canada for visitors while also providing shopping opportunities; downtown contains several art galleries including Yeoman Gallery whose exhibitions focus on contemporary Native American artist from throughout North America; as well as several stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue department store where locals can enjoy items made in house or purchased from outside sources such as online retailers etc.; And finally there are numerous clubs/groups who meet monthly or weekly within walking distance of central business district for various activities such as fishing tournaments etc., making Sturgis one busy town!

This year alone, there will be Sentimental Journey wreath donations being sent out on December 15th in honor of those who have served our Nation during this time of crisis. Sturgis, Michigan was once a thriving lumber town. The area now known as Sturgis was first settled by the Potawatomi tribe in the early 1800s. In 1851, General James K. Polk sent troops to suppress a civil insurrection in Michigan and these troops were halted at the Battle of Fort Mackinac by Native American warriors led by Chief Joseph Brant. This action helped solidify U.S. control over what is now Michigan and inspired George Washington to order the construction of Fort Mackinac on Lake Huron in 1796 as part of his strategy for protecting Detroit from French attack. The town's growth continued until World War II when it plummeted due to its proximity to Nazi Germany and its subsequent occupation by themilitary. After the war, Sturgis began to slowly rebound with new development including a shopping mall, restaurants, and hotels. However, recent economic struggles have caused many businesses to close their doors or reduce operations significantly. Today, much of downtown Sturgis remains vacant or underutilized despite attempts by city officials to attract development back into the area through funding and incentives programs.
The town of Sturgis, Michigan was founded in 1871 by the brothers John and George Sturgis. The town became a center for agricultural production and development, with churches, schools, and businesses helping to spur economic growth. In 1903, the town was renamed after General George Custer because of his death in action at the Battle of Little Bighorn.
