Taylor, Michigan is a small town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The population was 2,485 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids–Wyoming Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Taylor was John Barnes in 1827. The town was named after General James K. Taylor who died in 1827 while leading an expedition against the Pembina Hills Sioux tribe. A post office called Taylor was established in 1838, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1906. Taylor has a history that goes back to its founding as a small town on the banks of the Muskegon River by farmers and early settlers from Ohio and Indiana seeking land within reach of Detroit for their families during the mid-19th century boomtown period. The community grew rapidly due to railroad construction through what is now Taylor Township beginning around 1870 and continuing into the 20th century; mills were built here including National Steel Company's first steel mill which opened in 1903 and continued operations until 1984; power plants began operating nearby starting with Niagara Falls' Edison Electric Light Company's plant built just east of downtown Taylor between 1901 and 1902; auto production increased with Ford's new Rouge factory opening just west of downtown Taylor (later known as Dearborn) beginningProduction accelerated even further when Henry Ford purchased his old Rouge factory site adjacent to Dearborn from George Wrigley Jr., company president, for $165 million on December 17, 1947; transportation improved when Huron Street Bridge connecting downtown with northbound I-96 became operational on October 1, 1951

Taylor, Michigan is a small town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The population was 2,402 at the 2010 census. The name Taylor comes from Hiawatha, the Lenape Indian chief who founded and settled what is now Taylor County in 1824. The first settlers in what is now Taylor County were Civil War veterans who arrived in 1849. They built a log cabin on the banks of the Penokee River and named their settlement after General George Washington's home state of Virginia. In 1851, following a fire that destroyed much of downtown Detroit, the settlers decided to move to a more rural location and called their new community "Taylor". In 1865, during the American Civil War, Union General Ulysses S. Grant ordered his army to cross into Canada and march through Taylor County towards Detroit. A group of men from Taylor gathered together some supplies and made their way across the Penokee River onto Canadian soil for what would be an courageous stand against overwhelming odds. This event is also remembered by local residents as "the crossing". Upon arriving in Canada they erected a large flagpole near present-day Toronto and continued to struggle against taxation without representation until 1870 when they finally received government aid which helped them rebuild their town after being destroyed by fire. Aftermaths of World War II saw increased development around nearby Fort Wayne so little attention was given to Taylor until it experienced its own boom time in1990s with growth coming from neighboring towns such as White Lake and Grosse Pointe Park
Taylor was founded by John Taylor in 1806 as a small farming community about ten miles northwest of Detroit. The town rapidly became a transportation center for the area and soon developed into a major manufacturing center. In 1870, Taylor was renamedDetroit after the city's first mayor, James K. Polk.
