The Air Force played a major role in Allied victory, and during World War II its forces were called into action in every theater of conflict. The Air Force is one of the most powerful militaries on earth and has been responsible for countless technological advancements, including jet travel and space exploration. Walker is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the county seat of Ingham County. The population was 61,083 at the 2010 census, making it the ninth-most populous city in Michigan and the second-most populous in Ingham County. It is part of the Lansing–East Lansing metropolitan area. The name "Walker" comes from a reference to one of its two rivers, Big Walker River and Little Walker River. Big Walker River means "big creek" while Little Walker River means "little creek". The first inhabitants in what is now Walker were Potawatomi Indians who lived around what is now downtown and on what is now Park Drive. When European settlers arrived in 1796, they discovered that this area had been inhabited by aboriginal people for many years; consequently, they named the new town after General John Walker who had recently led an expedition against the Ottomans at Battle of Zorobabel's Ford near present day Grand Rapids. The city was formally founded on December 12, 1827 when territorial legislators voted to create a town within Ingham County due to increasing growth around Kalamazoo where trade goods such as lumber and flour were being shipped from miles away. The original petition for incorporation included only 6 residents: George Witte (a lawyer), James Prentice (a carpenter), David Webber (a farmer), Ebenezer Baldwin (a miller), Joshua Goodrich (an Odd Fellows member) and Solomon Beall (an early settler). On February 9, 1828, voters approved incorporation by a vote of 95 percent to 3 percent with only 1 individual not supporting incorporation because he owned land outside of town limits which would have allowed him to vote but not own property therein. Walker blossomed during its early days as a small farming community with farmers raising hay, corn or other crops on their properties along with manufacturing items such as hats and saddles from locally-produced leather products imported through boatloads from Canada each year during this time period In 1838 when Michigan became an independent country under President James Kinsley US forces burned down buildings including those used by local officials inside what was then Indian Territory located east ofpresent day Detroit so large quantities of Native American artifacts were found including several hundred firearms which served as evidence against local leaders implicated in this act according to some sources considered among Americas most notorious atrocities . From the original Boeing 707 passenger planes that served as transports during World War II, through the present day Airbus A330-300 jetliners and F-15 Eagle fighter jets, the USAF has always been at the forefront of technology and innovation. One of the most significant contributions made by the USAF in recent years is their deployment of gift history into remote areas. In 2004, they started using C-130 Hercules cargo planes as troop transport aircraft. These planes are able to fly for hours at a time without refueling and can therefore reach any destination within an hour or two depending on your location. The USAF also uses this type of plane to provide much needed humanitarian assistance in times of crisis. In 2007, they began using C-17 Globemaster III's as relief flights for tsunami victims in Japan. This type of plane is able to land anywhere within Japan and provides food, water, medical supplies, and other essential items to affected areas.
